Minor Details: Games of August 7

A tough game for Zack LIttell.  Griffin Jax is brilliant for the Miracle.  Chris Williams and Colton Burns lead the E-Twins.  The GCL Twins lose it late.  Two hits are enough for the DSL Twins.

TOLEDO 5, ROCHESTER 1 IN TOLEDO

The Mud Hens scored two in the second and three in the fifth.  The lone Red Wings run came in the eighth.

Gregorio Petit was 2-for-4 with a double.

Zack Littell pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks and striking out three.  Luke Bard pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.  John Curtiss struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

FORT MYERS 5, LAKELAND 0 IN LAKELAND

There was no score until the seventh, when a sacrifice fly put the Miracle in the lead.  Jose Miranda hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Fort Myers added two more in the ninth.

Caleb Hamilton was 2-for-3 with a double.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 2-for-5.  Miranda was 1-for-5 with a home run.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-4 and is batting .385.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-4 and is batting .368.  Royce Lewis was 1-for-5 and is bating .322.

Griffin Jax pitched 7.1 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and a walk and striking out seven.  He has given up two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last nine starts.  Jovani Moran retired all five men he faced, striking out two.  His ERA is 1.15.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS

ELIZABETHTON 16, KINSPORT 10 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored eight in the third to take an 8-0 lead.  The Mets came back with five in the fourth.  It then went to 10-5, 10-8, and 16-8 before ending 16-10.

Colton Burns was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Lean Marrero was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Chris Williams was 2-for-3 with two home runs (his thirteenth and fourteenth), scoring three times and driving in six.  He leads the league in home runs and is second in RBIs.  Robert Molina was 2-for-4 with a grand slam (his second homer) and had five RBIs.  He is batting .333.  Ricky De La Torre was 2-for-5.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-6 with two runs.  He is batting .378.  Alex Robles was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.  He is batting .316.

Luis Rijo struck out four in 3.2 innings, giving up five runs (none earned) on two hits and two walks.  His ERA is 2.35.  Zach Neff pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.08.

GCL RAYS 3, GCL TWINS 2 AT RAYS

Estamy Urena singled home a run in the eighth to tie the score 2-2.  The Twins had the lead run on second with none out, but their last six batters were retired.  Kevin Melendez singled home the deciding run with one out in the ninth.

Agustin Marte was 1-for-3 with a home run.

Casey Crosby was the opener, striking out three in one inning but giving up an unearned run on no hits and a walk.  Prelander Berroa pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk.  His ERA is 2.35.  Junior Navas struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  His ERA is 2.25.  Denny Bentley pitched a perfect inning.

DSL TWINS 3, DSL NATIONALS 2 AT TWINS

The Twins trailed 2-1 before scoring two in the eighth.  A bases-loaded walk tied it and the lead run scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Twins had just two hits.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-4 and is batting .344.  Luis Milla was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .304.  Ruben Santana was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .302.

    1. I was always told that the pitcher couldn't be on the mound like that without the ball, that it was a balk. Either I was told incorrectly or the umpires missed it.
