Minor Details: Games of August 23

Kennys Vargas stays hot and Zack Littell has a good game.  Luis Arraez and Andy Wilkins come through in the clutch.  Ernie De La Trinidad continues to do well.  So does Trevor Larnach.  A solid game for Andrew Cabezas.  Jeferson Morales has a big game.

ROCHESTER 5, PAWTUCKET 1 IN ROCHESTER

A walk and three singles plated two runs in the eighth to make it 5-1.  The Red Sox had ten hits but stranded ten runners.

Jon Kemmer was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Kennys Vargas stayed hot, going 2-for-4 with a double.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Nick Anderson was the opener, striking out two in a scoreless inning.  He gave up a hit and a walk.  Zack Littell then struck out six in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and no walks.  Ryan Eades pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  His ERA is 1.29.

CHATTANOOGA 4, MONTGOMERY 2 IN MONTGOMERY (10 INNINGS)

Luis Arraez delivered a two-out two-run single in the ninth to tie it 2-2.  Andy Wilkins hit a two-run homer in the tenth to win it for the Lookouts.

Arraez was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  He is batting .303.  Wilkins was 1-for-5 with two RBIs and the home run was his seventh.

Sean Poppen struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks.  Austin Adams struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Williams Ramirez pitched a perfect inning.

PALM BEACH 6, FORT MYERS 1 IN PALM BEACH

The Cardinals scored four in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  Palm Beach received five walks in the inning.

Ryan Costello was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4.  Alex Kirilloff was 0-for-4 and is batting .362.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .323.  Taylor Grzelakowski was 1-for-4 and is batting .307.

Bryan Sammons pitched 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks and striking out two.  Colton Davis pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up three walks and striking out one.  Kevin Marnon struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

BELOIT 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN BELOIT

The Kernels scored three in the sixth to go up 4-3, but the Snappers scored two in the seventh to go into the lead to stay.  Miguel Mercedes doubled home the tying and lead runs.

Trey Cabbage was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Michael Helman was 0-for-5 and is batting .358.  Trevor Larnach was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .317.

Melvi Acosta struck out five in 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.88.  Moises Gomez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

GREENEVILLE 7, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

Jonathan Willems hit a three-run homer in a four-run eighth that put the Reds up 5-1.  They added two more in the ninth.

Ricky De La Torre was 2-for-3.  Jean Carlos Arias was 2-for-4.

Andrew Cabezas struck out seven in 5.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.  His ERA is 2.80.

DSL TWINS 10, DSL NATIONALS 8 AT TWINS

The Twins led 1-0, trailed 3-1, led 4-3, and trailed 7-4.  They then scored six in the seventh to take the lead to stay.

Jeferson Morales was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, driving in two.  Luis Baez was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Victor Heredia was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  He is batting .336.  Luis Gomez was 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  He is batting .331.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs.  He is batting .315.  Brahiap Carrillo was 0-for-3 and is batting .303.

Bryant Perez struck out nine in five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks.  His ERA is 1.06.  Yordin Mateo pitched a perfect inning.

PENNANT RACE UPDATE

Fort Myers remains second, but falls to 1.5 games behind Charlotte.
Cedar Rapids remains first, leading Peoria and Quad Cities by three games.
Elizabethton remains first, but its lead over Kingsport falls to three games.
The DSL Twins remain second, a game behind the DSL Cardinals Blue.  The DSL season ends Saturday.
