Minor Details: Games of August 25

Gregorio Petit has a key hit.  Tyler Wells pitches very well.  Alex Kirilloff keeps hitting.  So does Trevor Larnach.  A big homer for Yunior Severino.  Tyler Webb wins a long game.  Jose Bermudez pitches well as the DSL season closes.

ROCHESTER 3, SYRACUSE 1 IN SYRACUSE

The Red Wings scored all three of their runs in the fifth.  One came on a bases-loaded walk and two on a single by Gregorio Petit.

Alex Perez was 1-for-3 and is batting .375.

It was a bullpen game.  Ryan Eades struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  His ERA is 0.90.  Luke Bard pitched three innings, giving up a run on six hits.  D. J. Baxendale struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  John Curtiss pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two walks.  His ERA is 2.75.

JACKSONVILLE 5, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

It was scoreless through seven.  John Norwood homered in the eighth to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 lead.  The Lookouts came back with four in the bottom of the eighth, getting a three-run homer from Andy Wilkins.  Jacksonville won it with four in the ninth, with a Brian Miller double driving home the deciding run.

Tanner English was 2-for-2 with a triple.  Joe Cronin made his AA debut and went 1-for-2.

Tyler Wells struck out seven in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  His ERA is 1.67.

ST. LUCIE 5, FORT MYERS 2 IN ST. LUCIE

The Mets scored two in the third to take a 3-0 lead and never led by less than two.  The Miracle scored single runs in the fourth and eighth.

Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  He is batting .365.  Robby Rinn was 2-for-4.

Griffin Jax pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks and striking out one.  Adam Bray struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on two hits.  His ERA is 1.27.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, KANE COUNTY 2 IN KANE COUNTY

Trevor Larnach hit a two-run single in a three-run first and the Kernels led all the way.  Michael Davis hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 6-2.

Akil Baddoo was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Davis was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and three RBIs.  Larnach was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and is batting .310.  Michael Helman was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .368.

Carlos Suniaga pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk and striking out four.  Zach Neff struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit in his Class A debut.  Rickey Ramirez pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BRISTOL 5 IN BRISTOL

The Twins scored four in the second and led the rest of the way.  Yeltsin Encarnacion hit a two-run double and Yunior Severino hit a two-run homer in the inning.

Gilberto Celestino was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, his seventh.  Encarnacion was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.

Josh Winder struck out seven in five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks.  Erik Cha struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk in his Appalachian League debut.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL RED SOX 6 AT TWINS (13 INNINGS)

It was 5-5 through nine.  Each team scored once in the tenth.  Despite the Manfred Rule, neither team scored in the eleventh or twelfth.  In the thirteenth, the Twins won the game as Tyler Webb scored from second on a ground ball single to shortstop by Hunter Lee.

Estamy Urena was 3-for-5 and scored twice.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  He is batting .387 in his rehab assignment.

Kai-Wei Teng pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out three.  Denny Bentley pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.60.  Michael Montero retired all eleven batters he faced, striking out two.  His ERA is 2.41.

This concludes the GCL Twins' season.  They finished 32-24, third in the GCL South, 1.5 games behind the Red Sox.

DSL TWINS 8, DSL CARDINALS BLUE 3 AT CARDINALS BLUE

The Twins broke up a scoreless tie with a four-run seventh.  Ruben Santana hit a two-run triple and Victor Heredia hit a two-run single in the inning.

Carlos Aguiar was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and two walks.  Heredia was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and is batting .330.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .303.  Luis Milla was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .301.

Jose Bermudez pitched five shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks and striking out three.

This concludes the DSL Twins' season.  They finished 50-22, in second place in the DSL South, one game behind the Cardinals Blue.  Their winning percentage was fifth-best in the league.
