Minor Details: Games of September 7

Jose Miranda hits a homer and Charlie Barnes pitches well to put Fort Myers up in the FSL Championship Series.  Randy Dobnak and Akil Baddoo lead Cedar Rapids into the semi-finals.

FORT MYERS 3, DAYTONA 1 IN FORT MYERS (CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GAME 1)

It was scoreless until the sixth, when Jose Miranda hit a two-run homer.  The Miracle added a run in the seventh on Travis Blankenhorn's RBI single.  Taylor Trammell singled home a run in the eighth to get the Tortugas on the board.  They had the tying run on base with one out, but did not get another hit the rest of the game.

Blankenhorn was 3-for-3.  Miranda was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

Charlie Barnes pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up seven hits and one walk and striking out five.

Fort Myers takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, BELOIT 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (PLAYOFF GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Akil Baddoo delivered an RBI single in the second to give the Kernels a 1-0 lead.  They added two in the fourth on run-scoring singles by David Banuelos and Trevor Larnach.  A sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 4-0.  The Snappers threatened in the first and last innings, putting men on first and third each time, but could not dent the plate.

Baddoo was 3-for-4 with a double.

Randy Dobnak struck out eight in a seven-inning complete game shutout, giving up six hits and a walk.

The game lasted seven innings because, had Beloit won, there would have been another game played last night.

Cedar Rapids wins the best-of-three series 2-0.  They now take on Peoria in a best-of-three series in the league semi-finals.
