  1. Weezer's cover album is out today. Track listing:

    Africa
Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
    Take On Me
    Happy Together
    Paranoid
    Mr. Blue Sky
    No Scrubs
    Billie Jean
    Stand by Me

I'm on record as liking their version of "Africa". I do, however, dread wading in to this. I may just ignore its existence until someone says "Holy crap, have you heard {track] yet?!"

    1. I've described the "Africa" cover as "Completely Pointless".
It's a shot-for-shot American remake of a foreign film with the setting, if the original was British.
      It's Alana Davis's "32 Flavors".

I'm curious what their "No Scrubs" sounds like. Can't be better than this:

    2. I have to give them props for the songs they chose, at least. Hopefully they "own" their covers a whole lot better than they did with "Africa" which really didn't have a reason to be made.

      1. You mean the first disc of the 4 disc "Hits of The 80's!" collection? Operators are standing by. Order now!

      2. I've pulled up a few on YouTube. So far none have shown a reason to be made (other than #CashGrab).

      3. Honestly, I think they are just having some fun. All prompted by some crazy fans with "Africa" and they figured why not do a cover album. To me it's no different than a group dropping a "greatest hits" album or doing a "remix". I don't think they had any dreams that "Africa" would go so crazy... so I really don't think the initial cover was a cash grab. The teal album might be a cash grab, or maybe a "let's do a bunch of covers for fun and if we make money while doing it? Why not?"

  2. My Twins fandom took a hit in the "return of Torii" year. If this offseason doesn't turn around I think it's going to take another big hit. (Other side of that coin is if they end up competing I will certainly fair-weather-fan myself back to paying attention.)

    1. I think the Twins have improved themselves, just not nearly as much as they could have. The Indians have taken a step or two back so the Twins could be in it right to the end. But yes a disappointing offseason if this is it, which Twin Cities media seems to think so. I think they are going to be doing a lot of damage control with fans that are pissed that payroll is way down.

      1. I recall a long, hard cold spell the first winter I lived here, 1978, that started in January and lasted into February. The coldest weather I'd ever experienced in my young life. I remember asking the foreman on the loading dock why they didn't shut off the trucks while we loaded them. I honestly didn't believe him at first when he told me it was so the diesel fuel wouldn't freeze. Even with heaters, the dock got so cold that my glasses would fog over when I walked into the egg cooler and the freezer felt warm compared to going outdoors. One night a co-worker and I had a few beers and he took me for a ride on the lake. I'd never driven on a frozen lake before and I was terrified, until I learned that the ice was about three feet thick.

      2. I grow weary of saying this over the years, but I think they are looking past this year. They still want to be competitive this year, but they want one more summer to see what Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Berrios, etc will do before deciding to make a bigger splash in 2020. If they catch fire in the first half of the season, they can go rent a player or two down the stretch. I am cautiously excited. Cruz go boom!

        1. Cruz and Rocco to me seem to be relevant changes.

I am fascinated about the fact that Machado and Harper are still on the market. I find myself intensely curious if there were ever a point at which the Twins would even consider one of those two players, or them the Twins. Not as an exercise I think should be pursued, just as a curiosity.

          1. Is there a point either would want to play for the Twins? I think both saw how Joe was treated, and any contract they hold out for is going to be for several years.

          1. Brandon Warne & Mike Berardino were talking about this on their podcast last week. Warne said the Twins have precisely $300,000 (Cruz’s buyout) in committed salary past 2019.

            1. And another $60 million for the team-controlled players. Looks like BR's estimate isn't very good though because they have players like Kepler or Rosario as "third-year" arbitration eligible but they aren't there yet.

              1. I believe Warne’s point was that they’re not formally committed to players who are arbitration-eligible. Certainly they’ll retain many of those guys, but they’re not committed to any of that salary — they’d be choosing to take it on.

  3. Was alerted that a public profile of myself existed on a site dedicated to helping people find lawyers. Said site contained numerous complaints and bad reviews, including one official ethics matter. All said comments (even the one good one) were for a guy with the same last name, but a different first name ("Mark").

Thankfully a quick phone call to the site's service team got the bad comments scrubbed. Still. How long has that been out there?

          1. I think I recall you mentioning that.

So weird that there would be so many indirect connections between the two of us.

  4. Maybe I am in the minority in NBAland, but I'm not a fan of Marv Albert and Chris Webber. Just about putting me to sleep while watching the Wolves game.

    1. I loved the part where Jarred Bayless (!) hit a sprinting on a fast break Luol Deng (!!) for a dunk (!!!)
