2019 Game 32: Twins at Yankees

It felt good to finally win a game in Yankee Stadium. It would feel even better winning a series there, I bet. To get that, it would help if Michael Pineda could pitch a shutout against his former team. Or at least turn in a quality start. He's been pretty below average so far with a 2-2 record and a 6.21 ERA. The Twins hitters go up against Domingo Germán, 5-1 with a 2.56 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a strikeout per inning. So it's not a good day for betting the farm. On the other hand, we might bang a few more out of that bandbox again today, you never know. Play ball!

  1. I have very little hope of winning today, not because they're the Big Bad Yankees but because Pineda simply hasn't been pitching well. It would be awesome if we could somehow steal this one, though.

    1. And Cleveland already lost, so there's nothing to lose if Pineda Pinedas all over the place.

    2. He kept them in the game. He's basically the Twins' No. 5 pitcher right now, and that's all you really hope for. I thought Pineda pitched better than the results. Control was the biggest problem with 2 walks leading to the first 2 runs (one of them on Polanco's throwing error) and then going full count to the No. 9 hitter batting under .200. He challenged the guy and threw a strike and he hit it out. Still, 8 Ks in 5 innings is very promising, even if the Yankees are missing some players.

  2. Solid first inning for Pineda. If we can get four more good ones out of him, I'd take that.

  3. Heading out to the Big Movie in 45 minutes. Let the beatdown begin soon.

  4. Well, it helps to face the .167 hitter with the bases loaded and only one out. Now let's wiggle out of this.

  5. Walks and an error and two Yankee runs. It's one thing to get beat. It's another thing to just hand them runs.

    1. He's actually doing okay so far. The two gift runs were partly his fault, but not entirely.

      1. I just don't have a lot of confidence that things aren't doing to go way south in an inning or two.

      1. He is working his way back from Tommy John. Hopefully he improves as the season progresses.

    2. Pineda had 8 Ks in 5 innings, so he obviously has good enough stuff. He's coming back this season after missing 1 1/2 seasons, so there's going to be ups and downs, especially through the first half of the season. The other four starters are doing pretty well now, so the Twins can afford to be patient with Pineda. When they get a chance, they'll probably skip his start once in a while to help him bounce back. Pineda led the AL in K/9 has last full season. The Twins probably want to see if he can get back to being that pitcher before they give up on him.

      1. It's not like the Twins have a wealth of other options for the rotation, either.

  6. Well, it looks like this game is going to go the way everyone would've expected it to go. The good news, as cheaptoy points out, is that Cleveland has already lost. The other good news is that this is the last game we play in New York.

    1. The other good news is that it's a 3:00 game so no one needs to stay up late watching it.

      1. And it's an official game, meaning we don't have to go back to New York to play a single game later in the season.

  7. I really hope they don't try to come back in a couple of hours to play this last inning or so. All that will do is give people the chance to get hurt.
