Minor Details: Games of May 19

All the games were decided late.  Well, I suppose technically all games are decided when the last inning ends, but you know what I mean.

ROCHESTER 6, DURHAM 4 IN DURHAM

Zander Weil homered in the seventh to break a 4-4 tie.

Batting stars:  Weil was 3-for-5 with a home run, his seventh.  Randy Cesar was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Jake Cave was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in two.  Tanner English was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Jordany Valdespin was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Pitching stars:  Zack Littell pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk and striking out two.  Jake Reed struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Gabriel Moya pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  Preston Guilmet pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition star:  Christian Arroyo was 3-for-4.

Stats:  Valdespin is batting .340.

Record:  The Red Wings are 15-24, fifth in the International League North, 7.5 games behind Syracuse.

PENSACOLA 4, MOBILE 3 IN PENSACOLA (10 INNINGS)

Jaylin Davis singled home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer (his sixth), a double, and a walk.  Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Brusdar Graterol struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks.  Alex Phillips pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Tom Hackimer pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Ryan Mason pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk and striking out two.

Opposition star:  Jhoan Urena was 2-for-5 with two doubles.

Stats:  Blankenhorn is batting .315.  Graterol has an ERA of 1.89.  Hackimer has an ERA of zero.  Mason has an ERA of 1.33.

Record:  The Blue Wahoos are 27-17, first in the Southern League South, three games ahead of Biloxi.

ST. LUCIE 8, FORT MYERS 6 IN FORT MYERS

The Cardinals scored four runs in the ninth to overcome a 6-4 deficit.

Batting stars:  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-3 with a home run (his seventh), a double, and a walk, scoring twice.  Royce Lewis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Ryan Jeffers was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his third.

Pitching stars:  Johan Quezada pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Anthony Vizcaya struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition star:  Manny Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a double.

Stats:  Diaz is batting .328.  Vizcaya has an ERA of 2.59.

Record:  The Miracle is 25-17, second in the Florida State League South, two games behind Palm Beach.

CLINTON 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 7 IN CLINTON

The LumberKings scored four runs in the eighth to overcome a 7-4 deficit.

Batting stars:  Chris Williams was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring twice.  Gabriel Maciel was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Gilberto Celestino was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his third) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition star:  Will Banfield was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and four RBIs.

Stats:  Albee Weiss was 1-for-4 and is batting .364.

Record:  The Kernels are 20-23, fifth in the Midwest League Western, eight games behind Quad Cities.

    1. He's doing very well. He'll need to learn to work deeper into games, but he's only twenty, so there's still plenty of time for that.
