  1. Twins are on pace to have three 20 game winners. Highly unlikely, but that would be something in today's game

  2. Derby County v. Aston Villa today in English Championship League promotion game. Some have described this as soccer’s richest match as promotion to the English Premier League will bring a club some $200 million dollars. (Aside, it will never happen but it would be so cool if American sports had Promotion and Relegation).

Today’s match is especially intriguing as two Chelsea stalwarts, John Terry and Frank Lampard are coaching Aston Villa and Derby County. There are strong rumors that Lampard may be the Chelsea manager next year and John Terry’s name has been linked to another EPL manager position as well. So regardless of who wins, strong possibility that both Terry and Lamps in Premier League next year.

Game on ESPN+ which is so disappointing. I don’t care enough to drag myself to Brits but should be a fun match regardless.

    1. Ugh. John Terry is the assistant manager at Aston Villa, not head. He’s been linked to a number of head manager jobs.

      1. I loved Bielsa telling John Terry to STFU last month. Talk about living the dream.

    2. Moving English football to ESPN+ is really dumb. The FA Cup final game was not even on broadcast or cable tv.

  3. Magic Kingdom jerseys and shirseys:
    Roberto Firmino
    Lionel Messi
    Stephen Curry
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Raheem Sterling
    Shaquille O'neal
    Michael Jordan
    Markelle Fultz
    Donald Trump
    Harry Kane

      1. Well, this was during the Interregnum, when he was exiled to NY. Not my fault.

I can just remember a big Joe Kapp billboard in Bloomington or Mpls, and when that went away (replaced by a Twins billboard), and he went away. And then we had to suffer through the Cuozzo/Lee/Snead years (1970 and 1971, where the Vikes lost in the first round of the playoffs both years, despite the top defense in the league both years). And then that awful, awful return season (1972, 7-7)....

  4. I'm not sure if it will ever not be a little weird to watch a Tigers game and see all the old band.

      1. And this is some terrible baseball from both teams. It's the free game of the day, so maybe MLB.tv has too many subscribers?

    1. I heard the brief NPR obit. Naturally, they mentioned the Gaffe as the thing he would be "most remembered" for. I thought that was crappy. Buckner was a solid player for a long time (career OPS+ of 100). Apparently he was a decent guy. He deserves better. And he deserved better than Lewy Body Dementia, which is a miserable brain disease.

I prefer to remember him with this (from his Repository bio):

On April 8, 2008, Buckner threw out the first pitch to former teammate Dwight Evans at the Red Sox home opener as they unfurled their 2007 World Series championship banner. He received a two-minute standing ovation from the sell-out crowd. After the game, when asked if he had any second thoughts about appearing at the game, he said, "I really had to forgive, not the fans of Boston, per se, but I would have to say in my heart I had to forgive the media for what they put me and my family through. So, you know, I've done that and I'm over that."

  5. hj, thanks for linking back to Prine. Heard this today, for the first time ... or at least for the first time since I signed up and it would have made a mark in my psyche.

Take from it what you will.
