      1. Fangraphs seems like its become a good place to go for stats and a not great place to go for, uh, much of anything else.

        1. I like their chats quite a bit (love the ones by Meg Rowley and Dan Szymborski*, especially). Their comment sections are....comments sections.

          * I somehow got that right on the first try.

      2. I missed the comments (thank goodness I've developed the habit of skipping of them, always), but I'll mention here that I scrolled back up to see who the author was because I thought she was doing a superb job explaining legal concepts.

        1. Yeah, the article was interesting, which is something I don't think I've been able to say about their articles for some time now. That comments section is an utter disaster, though.

          1. They put out quite a bit more articles lately, it seems. While their batting average has gone down, I still find a lot to enjoy. It's made its way back into my "daily view" list.

            1. Baseball poached much of their talent and they recently hired six new writers. There was a noticeable lull until the new writers began regularly contributing.

              1. Yeah, they’ve been heavily recruited. I was really sad when Jeff Sullivan left; given how good he was and how long he’d been with Fangraphs, I assumed he’d received offers from teams and had simply decided he wanted to write instead.

                1. That was my thought too until the Rays hired him. It sounded like no team had seriously approached him until this offseason when several did. I wonder if teams colluded figured out, again, that writers have a new, useful approach.

                  1. I like that teams are continuing to look for new approaches, rather than stagnate, but I really hate losing insightful writers who enrich my understanding of the game when they disappear into the proprietary knowledge black hole.

That’s one reason why I’m glad Eno Sarris wound up at The Athletic. Theoretically, I get to pay him to continue to educate me. I’d like to do that with others, rather than watch their talent get snapped up for corporate consumption only.

And speaking of Fangraphs, Meg Rowley has been great; I hope they keep her for a long time.

                    1. Rowley is fantastic, and she's doing a great job at finding writers who aren't just white males.

                    2. Rowley is fantastic. Like I mentioned above, I love her chats (her "advice" to those seeking fantasy advice never gets old), and I feel like she's been a real shot in the arm to the place.

        2. Sheryl has done a great job explaining the legal parts of baseball. It's too bad she's moving to BtB which isn't part of my daily reading checks.

            1. She announced on twitter last Thursday. The comments (which aren't that bad, seriously, it's not YouTube) said when.

              1. Ah. Thanks to my ad blocker, I don’t see the comments on Fangraphs. And thanks to Twitter, I don’t see things posted on Twitter.

    1. My thought initially was that I'd be fine with them putting him on the IL to let him heal, so this is okay. I just hope it doesn't mean that it's more serious than we've been led to believe.
