Game 79 – Tampa Bay at Minnesota

Weather permitting, today we’re looking forward to seeing Ryne Stanek (opener) v. Martín Pérez.

Stanek has started 22 of the 37 games he’s appeared in this season, with a total of 43.2 innings pitched.

Pérez, in his last 7 starts, is 2-2 with a 5.80 ERA, averaging ~5 innings per start with a WHIP of 1.65. His last start was Friday the 21st where he secured a ‘no decision’ in 5 innings of work, allowing Kansas City 4 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 BBs with only 2 strikeouts. To be fair, the offense only gave him 3 runs of support before tacking on 5 more during the 7th & 8th enroute to a come-from-behind win, 8-7 over the Royals.

Last night, Rosario sprained an ankle (no IL ... yet) and La Tortuga was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain (recalled OF LaMonte Wade Jr.) They did inserted Kepler as a late defensive replacement, but Buxton, Gonzalez & Adrianza are still on the IL. Their replacements have not embarrassed themselves, and the division lead being what it is, it’s nice to see them taking the recuperation time they need.

    1. Dude, it's game 79

I just want when we look back at the historical record of the Twins 2019 World Series Champion season that the game logs have a semblance of historical accuracy.

    1. Sadly no, they dislike their fans. And its more upsetting because I am suddenly unable to log back in to Fox Sports to watch.

      1. It relies on flash, so it's pretty broken. I can get IE to sort of halfways try to load it, but it hangs. Too bad, that was a nice little trick
        .

  1. Hate when I forget about the day games.

Love when I remember about the day games before they are over and I can watch MLB.tv at work.

Great outing for Perez today - nice to see.

      1. Honestly, at this point, it's probably time to start giving him a little higher leverage spots. May's control vexes me.

        1. I don’t love his control either. I’m almost more vexed by the way he responds to those issues. He seems more high-strung/emotionally unprepared for the struggles than I recall from his time before TJ.

    1. As beau noted, TB have possibly the best overall pitching staff in the AL, so definitely the latter and possibly some of the former.

  2. I'll double down on my pregame predication and say Polanco goes yard for the walk off.

  3. Hate it when the starter goes deep enough to take some innings off the bullpen, but you end up going extra innings anyway. Bummer.

  4. Dick says Littell has only walked one man all year. Then Littell promptly walks 2. I reluctantly spookied that to my son.

  5. So I have a physical FM tuner in my phone, but the Twins affiliates around here are all AM stations.

  6. The O-1 pitch, someone yells "curveball " as he releases the ball. Meadows was waaaaaaay behind the 95 mph fastball. I think he heard the fan.

  7. How nice is it to check the lineup in extra innings and not cringe at the battery!?! No Florimon’s or Colabello’s or Valencia’s...

    1. Was thinking to ask this as well. But... I mean, he did play for 5 different organizations last year.

  8. How am I supposed to get anything done this afternoon when the Twins won't just close this one out? Kinda glad the rain scared me off this morning.

    1. How am I supposed to start grilling when the Twins just won’t close this one out.

  9. Well, I was off work early today. Thanks to Sano I have a decent buzz going on.

  10. OK, I have a ~7 minute walk to the car. Hold it together til then, alright fellas?

    (Good seeing everyone today)

  11. I cooked boxed Mac n Cheese and added ground beef tonight. Kids ate that, and the wife and I will head out soon to Carlos Creek Winery's new brew house. 22 Norsemen. They have a woodfired oven, so I will eat pizza there.... if this game ever ends.

  12. They should probably stop hitting into double plays every time they get something going.

  13. So I'm blacked out on my phone (Albuquerque phone number) but not on my home computer. Huh.

  14. Watered the blueberry plants, met a friend for a bite, help set up for choir, and didn't miss anything other than incrementing the inning number

  15. I'm marinading chicken in the NYTimes cooking's Chicken Shawarma recipe for the grill. Served with home made hummus, feta cheese, lots and lots of salad and maybe a home made pita if I get off my ass - not likley.

    1. I hate how those assholes devalued my subscription by peeling the recipes off for a separate upsell price.

      1. Yeah, I feel ya. I don't suffer because the boss teaches for an institution that gives us free access. Yeah, I'm bragging now. But I do feel you.

  16. He's been calling that strike 3 inches outside all day. At least he is consistent

    1. We just move him to the outfield and burn the DH if we need another pitcher for the 22nd inning. Cruz got hurt anyway.

  17. The natives are getting restless with the umpire. And beer sales have been cut off for 10 innings now.

    1. dazzle noted “the trough is still open” at one of the bars in the stadium when cory notes the enthusiasm of the remaining fans.

  18. Wait, what? Why pull Gibson after only a single inning? Was that his bullpen session?

      1. I'm wondering why Littell only pitched one inning. I'd have thought he's the guy you'd want to pitch multiple innings of an extra-inning game.

        1. I'm wondering why more pitchers don't go more than one inning particularly when the game goes into extras, especially when they're not struggling. It's not like they're facing the lineup for the third time around.

          1. I can understand why maybe you don't want to extend someone like Rogers, so he's available again the next day. But the whole reason Littell is on the team is to pitch multiple innings, and in a situation where that's exactly what you'd want him to do he's pulled after one. I don't understand that at all.

            1. This. There is no designated "long reliever" in the bullpen, which seems unusual. Maybe that concept is outdated?

  19. At least Harper is fully imploding now that makes it feel worse than just the 1 run.

  20. Haha so funny! MLB saying the Twin are in the 18th inning. You're killing me guys!
