  1. Arizona Fall League update: The Twins' team, the Salt River Rafters, are 2-3, tied for second a game out of first in the AFL East.

Royce Lewis is batting .333/.412/.800 in 15 at-bats.
Luke Raley is batting .176/.167/.353 in 17 at-bats.
Ben Rortvedt is batting .000/.000/.000 in 3 at-bats.

Dakota Chalmers is 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings.
Zach Neff is 0.00 ERA, 0.75 WHIP with 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Moises Gomez is 3.38 ERA, 2.63 WHIP with 3 strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Jovani Moran is 9.00 ERA, 2.50 WHIP with 4 strikeouts in 2 innings.

      1. It makes sense. He will be up by 2021, if not next September. Polanco is not going anywhere for a while. CF makes sense as Buxton cant stay on the field and 3B makes sense as Sano is a DH/1B by that time.

        1. I guess I was under the impression Lewis is a better defender than Polanco, even without considering the age difference, and figured Polanco would shift to second when Lewis was ready for the gig. Maybe the contract Polanco signed changed some of that — and maybe some of that is Arraez?

          1. I was wondering about the emergence of Arraez changing Twins thinking of moving Polanco to second. However, would still consider Arraez as trade bait for a frontline pitcher this off season. with then Polanco moving over to second and Lewis at short.

        2. I could see the Twins bringing him up at a different position than SS. If he shines in 2021, then Polanco could be a very enticing trade chip.

Also, we can't get ahead of ourselves on Arraez. I do believe he is the real deal, but how many times have we all been burned. I could see him and Gordon sharing time at 2B/ super-utility until Lewis brought up.

          1. He may not always hit for such a high average, but Arraez is the real deal. You can't luck into having more walks than strikeouts. At 22 years old, that's incredible. The projections on Fangraphs averaged out to predict him to have a .327 wOBA this year, which is amazing for a guy that young.

      2. The Twins are saying we shouldn't make anything of it and that he will still be playing shortstop next season. I guess we'll see.

          1. The other players listed at shortstop for the Salt River Rafters are Geraldo Perdomo, a 19-year-old who was at Class A in the Arizona organization in 2019, and Jose Devers, also a 19-year-old who was at Class A in the Miami organization.

  2. This is about the Cubs, and includes a nice graph of the Cubs' postseason chances if you are into Cubs schadenfreude, but it is because of the first graph why I'm linking to the article. The Twins lead MLB with the number of 2+ fWAR players, at 12. The Yankees follow at 11 and five more at 10 players.

Pérez is at 1.9 fWAR so it's possible they could get one more player above 2.0 fWAR. Just like how it's possible Cleveland can win the division.

  3. Red Sox eliminated over the weekend. I know they had a rough start but didn't they have basically the same team as last year? Goes to show, if you have a shot at a Championship, it's best to go at it hard, no guarantee of future success and you don't know what the competition will do. Case in point for Cleveland, they could win 98 games this year and not make the playoffs.

    1. I think we have not had a discussion about it here, but they fired Dombrowski a few weeks back and let go more front office staff last week. He got a ring out of the deal, but its kind of shocking that the GM is fired less than a year after winning.

      1. Pos and Schurr were talking about. Their theory was DD is your "win right now" guy, but not the guy to build a team with. If so, looks like he outlived his usefulness.

    2. Indians have more wins already this year than last with a week left to go. Of course, last year, they were 7 games worse than their Pythag and this year, they are 1 game better.

    1. Sounds like Jose Ramirez will return on Tuesday, however. That will be basically a month since he had hamate bone surgery and was given a 5-to-7-week estimation, so he's ahead of that. Of course, no chance for him to do rehab games in the minors.

  4. On the Road to Nothing Burger

Tried out Amy's All American Veggie Burger tonight. Nowhere near as sexy/tasty as the Beyond Beef deal the other night.

$6.99 for four patties (keep frozen until use).

Made of textured soy protein, organic soy fiber, organic onions, wheat gluten, filtered water, organic mushrooms, organic bulgar wheat, organic walnuts, organic oats, organic celery, organic carrots, organic bell peppers, and +30 mehr organische Zeuge.

    Each patty 71g (2.5 oz), 130 calories:
    Fat 6%
    Cholesterol 0%
    Sodium 18%
    Carbs 4%
    Protein 15%

Felt really full after eating (Bloaty McBloatface). Processed food tho. I'll keep looking...

  5. Not only was Dyson injured before the trade, he might be out nearly a year.

The trouble for the Twins is that Dyson’s anticipated procedure comes with a lengthy rehab process. Per the report, the 31-year-old wouldn’t be expected to return until some time in the middle of next season.

  6. Of course Boston got exactly 10 hits tonight. That means that with 6 games to play for all three teams, Houston, Minnesota, and Boston are all tied for the lead in team hits (1491).
