October 28, 2019: Still Wiggin

I hope Wiggins decides if he’s going to be good or bad this year, because I think it will be even worse not knowing what you’re going to get from moment to moment.

  1. You may have heard this already, but Salt River won the AFL Championship Saturday, defeating Surprise 5-1. Jerar Encarnacion (Miami) hit a grand slam in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie, but Twins players had a hand in the game, too.

Royce Lewis was 2-for-5 with a double.
    Luke Raley was 0-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a run.
Dakota Chalmers started and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit and three walks. He struck out three.
Zach Neff pitched a third of an inning, giving up one hit and no runs.

Final AFL stats for Twins players:

    Royce Lewis, .353/.411/.565 in 85 at-bats.
    Luke Raley, .244/.312/.439 in 82 at-bats.
Ben Rortvedt, .111/.200/.111 in 9 at-bats. He had a knee problem and was out most of the season.

    Dakota Chalmers, 1-2, 5.09, 1.64 WHIP, 12 walks, 25 strikeouts, 17.2 innings.
    Moises Gomez, 0-1, 6.55, 2.09 WHIP, 9 walks, 15 strikeouts, 11 innings.
    Jovani Moran, 0-1, 7.00, 2.11 WHIP, 12 walks, 14 strikeouts, 9 innings.
    Zach Neff, 1-0, 1.38, 0.54 WHIP, 1 walk, 12 strikeouts, 13 innings.

    In winter league action:

Wilin Rosario was 2-for-9 with a home run and two runs over the weekend for Aguilas. He is batting .261/.333/.413 in 46 at-bats.
Jonathan Cheshire retired both men he faced for Escogido. He is 1-0, 0.00, 0.30 WHIP with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Alejandro de Aza was 3-for-8 with a double, a walk, and a run over the weekend for Monterrey. He is batting .462/.500/.538 in 13 at-bats.

Not Twins related, but Los Mochis and Mexicali played a twenty-two inning game Saturday, with Los Mochis winning 3-1. Mexicali scored one in the second, Los Mochis scored one in the fourth, and that was it until the twenty-second, when two runs scored on sacrifice flies.

  2. Jim Rowson has accepted a new job as bench coach and offensive coordinator (that's a thing in baseball?) for the Miami Marlins. I'm gonna lift a pint in honor of the job he did this year.
