  1. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, citizens! Safe travels to all the holiday sojourners, and best wishes of the season to the homebodies.

  2. If your Christmas didn't involve getting lit on fire by the menorah, then you've had a more successful day than I.

    1. Well, that didn't happen to me, but our dog did vomit on my son when we were less than two minutes from my mother in laws house.

      1. Worst part was that when my entire back was engulfed in flames I had five kids under the age of ten staring at me from with a couple of feet and blocking me from employing stop, drop, and roll. By the time I evaded them into an open space, I had managed to get my shirt off, and it was stomped out in the floor.

    2. Goodness gracious, I hope you're all right.

Our drama was a feverish kid (fortunately, my sister's son and not one of mine!). After he returned home from our gathering his temp got up to 104, so now we're all waiting for him to go to the doctor tomorrow to see if he has influenza. At least everyone did get a flu shot this fall!

      1. I'm in a similar boat. We had some illness (Heidegger vomited a few times, I lost about 36 hours to a bad fever/chills, Christmas feast downgraded to chicken noodle), but nowhere near "got set on fire" bad.

  3. Woke up at 9. Made breakfast. Opened gifts. Then just hung out. Dinner was country style pork ribs, seared scallops and some very tasty roasted brussels sprouts with bacon and honey sriracha glaze. Played some 500 after dinner and went to bed with a solid wine buzz. It was a very nice day.

        1. My brother, my dad, and my mom, but my parents are divorced and when all of us get together we are with more people and play other stuff

          1. Got it. We just taught our kids recently. When I was in college, a bunch of us R.A.'s would sit down in the lobby and play 500 all night long. We would stop the game to do rounds, or deal with complaints, but man, I played hundreds of games that year. My favorite card game, even above cribbage!

                1. When we played growing up, if any player had a hand without at least a 10 or higher, it was considered a redeal

                    1. If you bet Nullo, your partner sits out and you have to lose every trick to win the hand. There are other variants or additions, where you have to lose every trick but your card is laid out for everyone to see. Or you play with your partner to lose every trick.

                    2. Nope, haven't seen that one.
Do you bid normally and then declare it? Or is it always a no-trump bid?

                    3. In the version I've played, Nullo is higher than a 7 bid, lower than an 8 bid. So if someone has already bid 8 Hearts, it's off the table as an option. Unless you're willing to play it open-face.

I know there's also rule variants on whether or not everyone bids once, or everyone bids until everyone has had a chance to re-raise if they like. We always played the latter, though if you passed you couldn't bid anymore.
