  1. hey sean:
when i try to set the featured image in a post, it’s taking me to this screen:

did i hit a weird button or was there an update or some other chicanery?

    1. No updates recently and no change in the desktop or mobile view. The mobile screen I see is similar to the screenshot in that there are tabs, but they don't match the number of text. If you selected the "Media Library" tab instead of "From Computer", does that work?

  2. This sounds like fun. (Trust me. Read the thread)

      1. Other minor league managerial news: Ramon Barrego returns to Pensacola, Aaron Sutton (most recently the head coach at Montana State--Billings) takes over at Fort Myers, Ray Smith returns to Elizabethton, Takashi Mayoshi (a coach at Elizabethton last year) takes over the GCL Twins, and Seth Feldman returns as manager of the DSL Twins.

That's all assuming the commissioner doesn't just wipe out the minor leagues, of course.

  3. I'm absolutely fascinated by Nighthawks. Each of 4 people must have an incredible story. The single guy with his back to us, has to be up to no good. That couple! Their hands are nearly touching but she's looking at her nails like she's bored. Is she waiting for him to ask her to his place? Did they just have a fight? Post-coitus cup of coffee? And that neighborhood. Probably a side street off the main drag of a fairly big city. I have a feeling a tough part of town but that diner just lights up that corner, the bad stuff has to move down the street. I'd watch a 6-episode Netflix series on the events that led up to this scene.

What a great idea! — sign me up, too. (Incidentally, free, have you ever watched Midnight Diner? Given this comment, I think you’d appreciate it.)

The setting reminds me of Jeri’s Grill, an all-night diner off N Western near the Brown Line stop closest to Mrs. Hayes’ old apartment. It’s a bit busier than a side street, but in a neighborhood rather than in the Loop. (I have more than one playlist with songs inspired by (or heard on the jukes of) beloved eateries; myJeri’s Grill playlist has a fair bit of Tom Waits on it.) In another lifetime, owning a 24-hour diner & working the overnight would be a dream job.

I also love the angle on the cook/jerk’s cap. And the buildings across the street look familiar.

      1. There'd be a sizable demographic that would be all about catching a show comprised of one-season series inspired by artistic works.

        1. You mean like A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte? What would be the point in that?

                1. No worries. I think I was just too close to it. From a distance, this all comes together.

          1. Heh. I was thinking a little more gritty - the "real life" narrative that created the scene or came about because of it. Figured it would be very loosely tied to the image itself.

        2. We fell off watching them regularly, but Fake or Fortune? is related to that concept. Each episode is about validating a single painting but also delves into the history of the artist and the piece.

  4. For some strange reason, sushi is way tastier and much cheaper here than smack-dab in the middle of the North American continent. Who knew?

Yesterday, I was a judge for our local middle school "Chopped" competition. One of the teams did a sushi roll that had avocado, cucumber, bacon, rice and a few other ingredients. Garnished with soy sauce and sriracha. I must say it was very creative and tasty for a couple 12 year olds. On the other end of the spectrum, 2 teams (in different classrooms) presented us with a flaming hot cheetos burger. Ugh.

      1. $27 million for first three years then $14 million for the club option with a $3 million buyout.

In related arbitration news, the Twins and Berríos did not agree on salary. Berríos submitted $4.4 million while Twins submitted $4.025 million.

          1. Are they another file and trial team? And it's not even $375k because you can usually settle for the midpoint.

            1. They've got 3 weeks. They'll settle. Wouldn't be surprised if they're just working on a long-term contract and the numbers submitted are just a formality.

                  1. The last time they submitted numbers was '18 with Gibson, and that went to arbitration. Prior to Falvey and Levine, the Twins did everything they could to avoid arbitration. The last time was 2006 with Kyle Lohse.
