  1. Brother-in-law's house was hit by a tornado last night. Everyone is fine and safe, but pretty extensive damage to the roof and yard and everything.

    Scary stuff.

  2. One of the regulars at the LCS* is moving to SC in a couple weeks, so the owner pulled together a going-away gathering at the nearby sports bar with about a dozen of the usual suspects showing up. Besides getting to visit with some of the folks I run into now and then at the shop, the owner passed out packs of recent baseball cards for pack wars (closest card# to 100 without going over; highest card#, etc) with the winner getting something nice. I managed to win a couple autographed cards, one which I traded for an autographed Polanco card, plus in the packs themselves I got a jersey card of Evan Longoria, a couple Twins cards I needed, a card #/99, and a blue Father's Day parallel of Vlad Jr #/50 which is going for ~$30 on eBay -- with luck, I'll turn that around for something Twins-ian. And then he paid for our meals! With all the lamenting over the disappearance of card shops, I definitely gotta count my blessings.

  3. What's the school's rationale for doing such a thing? Assuming it happens during the school day, it seems like a waste of valuable time.

    1. If there are a lot of students that transfer in the middle of the year, then there could be enough that missed the original photo day. But probably money.

    2. The amount of parental demand in our district for pictures, re-takes of pictures, and additional pictures is a little bit overwhelming for me.

    3. it seems like a waste of valuable time.

Teacher's Counterpoint: It gets those kids out of my classroom!

    4. I don't understand the need to do pictures at all in this day and age. We all have a billion picture of our kids. Why get them at school? It's not like they are working hard to get a quality picture. Its just herding cattle.

      1. Yeah, we have not gotten them the past two years. The ones they've taken have been mediocre and like you said, we have thousands of pictures of our kids that are better.

          1. That we continue to buy. I still have all mine going back to 2nd grade. My son occasionally pores over his 1st grade one.

  4. Today's starting lineup feels like (with one or two exceptions) what the standard regular season lineup could look like.

    1. Kepler
    2. Polanco
    3. Cruz
    4. Donaldson
    5. Rosario
    6. Garver
    7. Sano
    8. Gonzalez (to be swapped with Arraez)
    9. Cave (to be swapped with Buxton)

    1. I had someone trying to bait me about yesterday's game, and I congratulated him on the Cardinals beating the starting 2nd baseman, backup infielder, possible 5th SP, and rookies.

    2. I’d like to see Rosario & Sanó flipped. Left handed or not, I’m not sure I can stomach another season with a .300 OBP in the middle of the lineup.

        1. will it? The entire team hit last year and Rosario was still plugging away there in the middle.

          1. I've been reading a lot about how Rosario's ankle never fully healed last year. That could be spring training hype, but it also sounds plausible.

            1. I don't know that the problem with this was Rosario, so much as it was the decision to bat him there. Of course, it all seemed to work out, so I won't second guess too much.

              1. Before injured list last year - .841 OPS
After IL last year - .750 OPS

I question them batting him in the middle the second half of last year.

I don't question it as much going into this year if he produces like he once did.

    1. sad that his mugshot still shows him in a Twins cap

back in the day, at Spring Training he and Sano were the BMOC (literally), and Kennys is actually bigger than Miguel

  5. I watched a couple innings of today’s game, my first baseball of the year. I’m going to have to make sure I keep realistic expectations because I really, really want a great season again, even better than last year, and I know that’s a recipe for disappointment.

    1. I don't think it'll be as nuts as last year because of what I assume will be a dead ball. But I feel really good that this summer will be fun as hell.

    1. That Fiala/Granlund trade keeps looking better and better. I have a newer manager who played college hockey. It's kind of hard to argue with him as I played high school basketball. He has not been a fan of Fiala, while I have argued that I think he has potential. Last night he finally agreed that I was right on Fiala. Blind squirrel, nut reference, something something.
