  1. I have been using this exact phrase lately. Usually on Tuesdays, but I think Thursdays works too.

    1. No joke, that's one of my favorite Onion articles. It pairs well with this Dinosaur Comic

  2. Doc and Stick (and anybody else who may have followed my nephew’s hardwood exploits over on FB), Jax decided on Concordia St.Paul—a D2 School in the Northern Sun Athletic Conference. (Among other schools, some of its members are UMD, St. Cloud State, Mankato State, and Winona State.) Concordia hired a new coach earlier this year who made Jax a priority as he thinks he’ll be a great fit with his fast pace offense.

Jax wanted to stay closer to home, especially in this time of uncertainty. And I’m a mere 8 miles from the Concordia campus so I’ll be able to take in most every home game, and possibly a few roadies. One thing I am sure of is CStP got themselves a very good basketball player and an even better kid.

    1. That's awesome. I was a silent watcher. I was wondering what his college career was going to bring. I work mere blocks from the campus (who who knows may live near there by the Fall as well - stay tuned).

      1. Cool! I’ve already got a couple of folks pretty excited about seeing him play. You’ll have to meet me for a game. I typically buy the first ticket. 😏

    2. Congrats to him!
I had not realized that Concordia-StP has gone D2. My recollection is that they had been D3 or NAIA back in the day.

      1. It’s only been a couple years, and they are in the bottom half of the conference, so he and the new coach will have their work cut out for them.

    3. I've been keeping quiet tabs as well.

I think this'd be a good opportunity for a caucus, if, you know...

        1. "Uh, Jax...who were all those old dudes cheering for you?"

"Oh, my uncle's friends he met on the internet."

  3. Last night I had a discussion with my friend about hot dogs. Its a given that grilled is best, but what is your second favorite way to cook them? Boil them in water or nuke them in the microwave.

I am am 100% pro boil.

      1. I'm of the opinion that pan frying them in butter is better than grilling them.

But the best way to prepare a hot dog is, and will always be, a roller grill.

YES! Forgot to add this. And the longer they've been rolling, the better.

    1. Pan-fried. Preferably wrapped in bacon. 😀

One of my fonder memories (😳) of school lunch was cheesy hot dogs (hot dog, cheese, slice of bread secured with a toothpick, baked until hot).

      1. I, too, pan fry my dogs. When I get them from the supermarket, I've been looking for Sahlen's tender casing dogs. I like mine blistered, then laid in a Chicago-style bun with a heavy line of Yellowbird Habanero Condiment and a tracing of ketchup. I'm out of my homemade stuff, so Sir Kensington Classic is what we have to work with until tomato season.

    2. I sneak in a boiled hot dog from time to time because that's how we made them growing up. My wife calls it making wiener water soup.

      1. For 8th grade English class, we had a group project to come up with a product and make a fake TV commercial for it. The product my group chose? Weiner water soup!

    3. I would much prefer boiled to microwaved, but am much more likely to end up having the nuked version. If I'm too lazy/tired/inebriated to grill them, I'm certainly not going to take the time boil them, either.

    4. pretty sure i've never nuked a hot dog. I tend to boil over grill just for time's sake. Not as good but at least unlike microwave there's not random hot and cold pockets

    5. Dog: Hebrew National Beef Franks (the kind that are longer than the bun).
Bun: New England-style white (cut in half from above).
Prep: Grill. 2nd best: Boiled - i like to cut down the middle for more holding space.
Condi: White onions, cut small. Dijon mustard at home. At the park, yellow mustard/relish pax.

I've also put them on a fork and held them over the stove.

Brat's also good but a bigger production. We get these wild-rice brats from the FIL from Hayward, MN. Awesome.

  4. The Puckett Auction closes in an hour and the few things I had my eye on all got a little too rich for my blood.
