Kirby Puckett Division: #6 vs #11

#6.  Darrell Evans Picked Off Third by Tim Laudner

Up 2-1 in the series and up 4-2 in the 6th inning, the Tigers got to Viola. Dave Bergman had just singled in a run off Keith Atherton and the Tigers had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out.  Not sure why Evans was so far off third base, but Buck Ninety took advantage.

#11.  Willians Astudillo Scores From First

Oh, La Tortuga.  An inspiration to us all.

  1. Voting for the one I didn't attend!

Also, didn't realized the pickoff was followed but a wild pitch. (Or that Berenguer committed several balks with a runner on third.)

      1. I know 1988 was the year of the balk. Berenguer went from 0 to 5 balks. Probably most of them were calling him out on this move

  2. Much as I love A-Stud, that Laudner pickoff play was awesome. I can still remember it all these years later.

  3. So I was watching that Detroit-Twins game alone in my apt. and I was so nervous when Darrell Evans was on third that I had to leave the room. I think I took out the trash or something. I turn the TV back on to see 2 outs and a guy in 2nd. No internet at the time of course, so I literally had to wait for the end of the inning to find out what happened.

    1. When you know the outcome, it is hard to remember what a huge momentum shift came from some specific plays. This one was one of the big ones in that series.

      1. Yeah. I didn't watch or if I did I don't remember. Could have easily gone with Gaetti's gazillion big hits
