July 19, 2020: Further Down The Spiral

Exhibit# 154358 of being a suburban dad despite the repeated self-denial: "Huh, those hanging flower baskets really add a nice splash of color to the front of the house. I'm sure glad we put those up!"

  1. Because I'm still away from home, the Digital Caucus tonight will only be an hour again tonight (7:30-8:30 CDT). Curt Schilling's name will not be mentioned

  2. If you've never biked west over the Minnesota River along 494 into a fairly strong headwind, you should know that it sucks.

    1. I went Chan to Hopkins to Excelsior to Chan. Beautiful morning! 24 total with a break at Red Bench Bakery in Excelsior.

      1. Nice. Were you using those unpaved Three Rivers trails into and out of Hopkins?

My only experience with using the 494 bridge before today was heading east, so the conditions caught me by surprise. After I rested at the Wildlife Reserve for a few minutes, the rest of the ride was great.

        1. Yes. We did the southwest trail and then headed up 17th in Hopkins to take the trail that goes along Minnetonka boulevard out to Excelsior.

          1. I was pleasantly surprised that the trail along the Minnesota River in Dakota County between the Mendota Bridge and 494 was recently paved (it was gravel when I last rode it about six weeks ago). I don't mind those Three Rivers trails towards Chanhassen and Lake Minnetonka, but my brother hates riding on them so we tend to pick different routes.

    2. I’ve started researching the ride from the head waters to my house. From what I can tell 30-45 days will take me from itaska to the quarter. I’m just trying to figure of it how to tell dr. Chop I quit my job to ride the length of the river...

      1. Reminds me of one of my favorite jokes about living in New Mexico.

        Q. Why is it so windy in NM?

        A. Because Texas sucks and Arizona blows.
