        1. Im not that well versed in Reds history, for for most of my life they have been terrible.

John Smiley Corky Miller Eric Milton Javier Valentine and Juan Castro

          1. Hall: 6.7 rWAR with the Twins, 1.0 with the Reds
            Smiley: 5.1 and 8.1
            Cardenas: 8.6 and 13.8
            Merritt: 11.3 and 2.8

  1. Mitch Keller of the Pirates trying for the Edwin Jackson no-hitter. No hits over five innings because of eight walks.

  2. Have never eaten at a Chick-fil-A or a Popeyes. Discussing with NBBW now. We're thinking of a chicken sandwich throwdown between the two. There's also a Broasterant in H'istan (patented technology).

      1. We had a Popeye's in town for a hot minute.

It's good. Slightly better than Chick-fil-A.

But I would rather have an El Pollo Loco or a good BBQ place near me.

        1. A (long) while ago, I was on a work trip to San Antonio. For lunch, we went to an authentic smokehouse BBQ joint in the rough part of town. I went in and someone said 'you better take off the tie or it will end up there' and pointed to a wall of scissor-cut ties. I took mine off and stuffed it in my pocket.

Pork ribs were fab, coleslaw, fries. You could do worse. BTW on the street you could buy these tiny peppers which I used for years - piquin - awesome for burgers, etc.

    1. Popeye's is good, but Bojangle's is so much better. We make a point of hitting a Bojangle's any time we visit or drive through the south.

      1. Raising Gaines.

We will be in Vegas and eating this tomorrow. Popeyes doesn't even come close.

        Have not had bojangles.

        1. I generally much prefer bone-in chicken to chicken fingers, so Raising Cane's has never been a big priority for me. We have a new-ish one fairly close by, but I haven't been yet.

And I vaguely think we stopped at one in South Carolina in the middle of a long drive, but I only remember the exhaustion, not the food.

        2. Sweet jesus, Cane's over Popeyes? Man, these are fighting words. I might actually drive to Vegas just to hash this out in person.

          Cane's pros
decent chicken finger that was meat once actually on an animal and not pressed into a nugget shape.
Crinkle cut fries (if that is your jam)

          Cons
Where is the bbq suace? Your ketchup in mayo is a joke.
The worst coleslaw on the planet
no spicy option (for the love of god you're a Louisiana company and you can't even add a dash of heat?!?!?)
The drive through only option is a pain in the ass (non covid edition) because now I'm eating once crispy food that has steamed itself in the styrofoam while I drive around looking for a place to park and eat in my car.
fries and slaw as the only sided. See note about slaw above. The. Worst.

          Popeyes Pros
          Options. Options Options.
Mix n match - You want 2 spicy and 1 regular in your 3 piece? You got it.
Spicy option across all menu items.
All the sides. (Spoiler alert - I've eaten a meal of only sides from Popeyes, and it was glorious) Pro tip - always get the dirty rice as the rice for your red beans.
          Biscuits

I wish I could find fault with that chain, other than heart disease of course, but if I'm eating chicken from a chain it's

          Gus's World Famous >>>>>>>>popeyes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cains >Churches>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>KFC>>>>>Chic-Fil-A.

Local, non chain, New Orleans purveyors of fried chicken bring the conversation to a totally different place. We'll leave that alone for now because if I keep writing I'll decide that I should have fried chicken for dinner. My cardiologist doesn't think that is a great idea.

          1. I used to really like the coleslaw at Rudolph's on the first floor at Galtier plaza. I think there was some horseradish in there.

            1. I have never liked any cole slaw. I also will only eat vinegar-based potato salad (because mayo is the worst), so I'm a real treat at picnics and barbecues.

              1. Bring on some warm German potato salad - bacon, apple-cider vinegar, skin-on-red potatoes, some sugar, and DIjon mustard.

                1. Co-sign on the warm German potato salad.

But the complaints about 'Murican potato salad and baked beans are treasonous.

              2. I never liked cole slaw as a kid, but my tastes have changed. A little mayo, sugar, vinegar, lots of celery seed,, and some salt and pepper. Shredded cabbage and carrots and maybe some onion. Great on pulled pork sandwiches. Good as a side. Also good with some hot sauce and a heavy hand on the vinegar to make it more Carolina style.

Or add some Mexican sour cream to turn it into a white sauce. Perfect for fish tacos.

        1. 7 seed seems odd since we are guaranteed to have better record than Yanks, Jays, Astros, and Angels.

          1. Agreed. But the tie-breaker rules say 1-3 is division winners, 4-6 is the divisional second place teams.

  3. I’d like to make a request. Can the Twins have the Miguel Sano of the last three weeks of August back? Young man is making sawdust up there - batting .149 for the month of September with 35 SO & only 2 BB in 76 plate appearances whereas in the previous 74 PAs he hit .350 with “only” 28 strikeouts and 13 walks. His 1st inning at-bat with the bases juiced wasn’t even particularly competitive - 3 swinging strikes on 4 pitches ... and that was after Mahle had walked two of the first four Twins he faced.
