  1. Many years ago when I was producing the morning news at KARE we had an assignment editor named Harlan who would give everyone in the newsroom Hannukah gelt. The first time this happened I took the gelt home and gave it to the girls. They were very curious about Hannukah so I told them the Maccabees story and somehow giving the girls a bag of gelt became another family holiday tradition. We're several days late to the game this year but Younger Daughter is coming over today to bake cookies and decorate the tree, so I'm going to pick up some gelt this afternoon and we're having latkes for dinner.

        1. Smokey has since offered to do this over, and he was a good sport about it. But this is absolute gold.

  2. Ann Reinking has died. I got to see her (with Tommy Tune) in "Bye Bye Birdie" at the Muni back in the early 90s. When Tommy muffed a line, she hilariously turned to the audience and said, "He just won a Tony."
