  1. ESPN is pretty high on the Twins:

This will be the Year of Byron Buxton

I hate to curse a guy with my total inability to connect on hot takes, but here goes: Byron Buxton is going to win the AL MVP award. This is not an overreaction based on his three early homers. I just love where Buxton's offensive approach is right now. He's in that magical age-27 zone. With a modicum of newfound patience, he could hit 30 homers. With a career-first season of start-to-finish health -- the biggest question mark in this scenario -- he's going to steal 50 bases. In that potent, balanced Twins offense, he'll score 110 runs and drive in 100. And his work in center field is historic. This is the year that the version of Buxton we've always known was there is going to emerge. -- Bradford Doolittle

Or make that the Year of Nelson Cruz

Nelson Cruz leads baseball in home runs and OPS and wins AL MVP honors and leads the Twins to a World Series championship. All-in. Lineup. Rotation. Bullpen. Manager. And the 40-year-old Boomstick. Does Cruz look old to you? It's incredible to think about where he was in his career just a decade ago, but now he is seemingly at the top of his game, regularly churning out 40-homer seasons. Now comes 50. Homers. Not age. Not yet. -- Eric Karabell

OK, make that the Year of Jose Berrios

Berrios will win the American League's Cy Young Award, the World Series MVP award and record said Fall Classic's final out. Most of the problems with Berrios' 2020 were related to fastball command -- a pitch in which he added velocity despite those issues -- and since the exhibition season began, he certainly seems to have corrected them. He has added more spin and a hint more velocity to the pitch, giving him two bona fide swing-and-miss pitches, and he's one of the few who should get a workload befitting an "ace" in today's game. These Twins will go far in the playoffs, thanks in large part to his efforts. -- Tristan Cockcroft

    1. It will be impossible for Buxton to steal 50 bases because he keeps going to second right away.

    1. These are cool and I've started to follow that account on Twitter but that logo/icon/image at top center is disconcerting. It sometimes reminds me of the Chicago Bulls logo, a pair of men's jockey underwear or an image of a human uterus. Maybe i've been holed up in pandy mode too long.

      1. It's clearly an ump's facemask to me (see the logo for the Twitter account). The top of the graphic was cut off by Twitter. You can see it if you click on the graphic in Twitter.

  2. Had a fun trip to watch the Twins game yesterday with my wife and the couple that owns the local brewery. I bought seats in the Delta Sky View Club area. We were first row, section M, which was directly behind the visitor dugout. Seats were good. Had our own concessions area. That club area felt so quiet and depressing with many beer and food stands unattended. Maybe 1/4th of them were open and never a line. Restroom trips were quick as well. Inside the stadium the 25% seating created enough background noise to still make it fairly fun to be at the game (until the implosion). It was a little weird being asked to wear masks in our seats when the closest occupied seats from us were 12 feet or more away. But, I get it, rules apply to everyone and there were some standing room areas where 20 people would be standing cheek to cheek all along the rail. Overall, it felt very safe, and rarely did we pass close to any other groups. We were also fortunate that our seats were completely out of the wind, so it was very comfortable.

We had a private beer tasting afterwards at a brewery in St. Paul that is closed on Sundays. Ordered in food from Naughty Greek while we were there.

  3. I'm off to get a Covid test this afternoon. I felt pretty crappy all weekend. I went for a walk on Saturday and almost immediately my lungs felt like they were on fire. I was able to negotiate a 2.5 mile walk, but I started to feel jittery like I had drunk too much coffee. I woke up feeling that way on Sunday, too, and was jumpy all day. By night, negotiating seven steps had me out of breath. Today, I'm not feeling jumpy and I can negotiate the half staircase without being out of breath, but I've now got a pretty good cough. No fever, taste and smell intact, so maybe it's not Covid, but I definitely have some sort of respiratory issue going on.

      1. So here's the extent of my exposure to people in the 14 days before this weekend. 14 days earlier, my parents, who are fully vaccinated, spent about an hour and a half in our house. We were all masked. I drove them to my sister's who lives 30 minutes from me. All masked. I spent 5-10 minutes in my house talking to my sister (she was not masked or vaccinated). I kept my mask on. No other exposure to anyone besides my wife and daughter. My daughter does skate on the weekends. She wears a mask while at the rink.

If I actually have it, that would be an amazing stroke of (bad) luck. I'm thinking no, but gotta test to be sure.

        1. Didn't you get the J&J injection in the past week? I've heard sometimes side effects can be delayed and fairly strong with that one. Hoping for the best.

            1. Ok, wrong guy. Got my first Pfizer today in Golden Valley. No side effects so far. I can feel where the shot was but it's not painful or sore, at least not yet.

            2. Jeez. The vast majority of the protection appears to come from the first injection, so that would be crappy turn of events.

              1. I was sincerely knocked down by the second dose of pfizer. Fever, chills, aches, pain, and brain fog for most of sunday. Today was better, little bit of a weird been high on drugs feeling but no fever. Hoping for a good tomorrow.

              2. I am feeling much better tonight. I have a pretty tough cough and sore throat, but a lot of the other symptoms that I was feeling are gone. So, we will see. Considering the very long time that I've been isolated and the tiny little exposure to other human beings that I have had in the last 13 months, it would be unbelievable that I got it.

  4. I got my second Pfizer shot on Friday morning. Worked all day Friday with no issues other than a sore arm. Woke up Saturday and felt sore all over, and a bit light headed. No energy. By 2:00 Saturday I felt much better and played around of golf with the family. Sunday I felt fine, but this morning I woke up sore all over and again, light headed and no energy. I hope this is the end of it.

  5. I woke up yesterday and my knee was killing me. And I don't recall doing anything in particular to it. I've had knee problems before, but that was kinda back in behind and up into the joint a bit and felt structural(? if that's the right word). This is right across the top along the kneecap on the interior and is definitely muscle or tendon pain. I've never felt this before

      1. Absolutely this. Wait until you wrench your back emptying the dishwasher or hurt your neck drying your hair or....

        1. I employ the 4 year old as the assistant dishwasher emptier. She hands me everything off of the bottom shelf & door basket for the silverware.

My wife thinks I'm joking when I say it's so I don't have to bend over, but I am 100% serious about it. And The Elder Child loves helping out, so win-win

          1. Excellent use of their gullibility at that tender age. Good luck conditioning them into thinking it's their job when they get older. 🙂

    1. Nooooooooo Stay with us Mags! OMC has too many members! I know rugby ages you faster but don't give in!

    2. My wife had almost the same symptoms. For her it was a partial anterior meniscus detachment that they treated with a cortisone shot. If the pain doesn't go away after a few days you'll want to have it looked at.

  6. Today is a good day to avoid the comment sections of the local sport teams media posts.
