Minor Details: Games of May 11

Randy Dobnak does not impress.  The Wind Surge loses a close one.  Gabe Snyder has a big day in a Kernels loss.  Not much offense for the Mighty Mussels.

IOWA 11, ST. PAUL 1 IN ST. PAUL

Iowa scored two in the first and led all the way.  A five-run sixth made it 11-0 before the Saints finally scored one in the seventh.

Batting star:  Tomas Telis was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.

Pitching star:  Danny Coulombe pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  P. J. Higgins was 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, three runs, and two RBIs.  Cameron Maybin was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Joe Biagini struck out six in five no-hit innings, giving up two walks.

Starter:  Randy Dobnak pitched 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks and striking out one.

Stats:  Telis is batting .304.

Damek Tomscha was 0-for-3 and is batting zero.  Joe Kerrigan was 0-for-3 and is batting zero.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-1 and is batting zero.  Daniel Ozoria was 0-for-1 and is batting zero.  Dobnak has an ERA of 5.40.  Ian Hamilton allowed two run in one innings and has an ERA of 5.40.  Juan Minaya allowed four runs in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 12.27.

It should be noted that Encarnacion was just promoted from Cedar Rapids and Ozoria was just promoted from Fort Myers.  For some reason, the Saints had a shortage of infielders.

Record:  The Saints are 2-5, in seventh (last) place, 3.5 games behind Columbus.

AMARILLO 3, WICHITA 2 IN WICHITA

Geraldo Perdomo singled in the deciding run in the seventh, breaking a 2-2 tie.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 3-for-5.  Roy Morales was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Cole Sands struck out five in four innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks.  Jovani Moran struck out three in 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Yennier Cano struck out six in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Alek Thomas was 3-for-5 with a double.  Ryder Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Edgar Arredondo struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks.

StatsMorales is batting .500.  Caleb Hamilton was 1-for-1 and is batting .462.  Miranda is batting .406.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-4 and is batting .387.  Sands has an ERA of 2.16.  Moran has an ERA of 1.50.  Cano has an ERA of 1.59.

Gilberto Celestino was 1-for-4 and is batting .167.  Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-4 and is batting .174.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 5-2, in first place, a half game ahead of Northwest Arkansas.

QUAD CITIES 12, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN QUAD CITIES

It was 4-4 after five, but the River Bandits scored four in the sixth and four more in the eighth to put it out of reach.

Batting stars:  Gabe Snyder was 2-for-4 with two home runs.  Jair Camargo was 2-for-4.  Seth Gray was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  William Hancock was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.  Nathan Eaton was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs.  Vinnie Pasquantino was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and two runs.

Stats:  Snyder is batting .389.  Matt Wallner was 1-for-4 and is batting .360.

Michael Helman was 0-for-2 and is batting zero.  Gabriel Maciel was 0-for-4 and is batting .167.  Zach Featherstone allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 15.43.  Tyler Palm allowed four runs in two innings and has an ERA of 7.20.  Jonathan Cheshire struck out the only man he faced and has an ERA of 6.75.  Well, you have to start somewhere.

Record:  The Kernels are 5-2, tied for first with Wisconsin.

CLEARWATER 10, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

The Mighty Mussels led 2-0 after four, but it was all Threshers after that:  three in the fifth, two in the seventh, five in the ninth.

Batting star:  Keoni Cavaco was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Opposition stars:  D. J. Stewart was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second), a double, and four RBIs.  Casey Martin was 2-for-4 with a walk, and two runs.  Abrahan Gutierrez was 2-for-5 with a double.

Starter:  Hunter McMahon pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks and striking out three.

Stats:  Yunior Severino was 1-for-4 and is batting .318.
