The Saints have a pair of games decided in the ninth.  The Wind Surge loses two but remains in first place.  The Kernels drop a pair of one-run games.  The MIghty Mussels achieve a split.

ST. PAUL SAINTS

ST. PAUL 2, IOWA 1 IN ST. PAUL

Ryan Jeffers led off the bottom of the ninth with a walkoff home run to win it for the Saints.

Batting star:  Jeffers was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.

Pitching stars:  Charlie Barnes struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks.  Luke Farrell struck out five in two perfect innings.  Cody Stashak pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Juan Minaya pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Ian Miller was 3-for-4.  Shelby Miller struck out four in 3.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks.  Adrian Sampson pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Stats:  Stashak has an ERA of zero.  Farrell has an ERA of 1.93.

Daniel Ozoria was 0-for-1 and is batting zero.  Daniel Descalso was 1-for-2 and is batting .125.  Joe Kerrigan was 0-for-3 and is batting .158.  J. T. Riddle was 0-for-3 and is batting .175.  Minaya lowered his ERA to 8.44.

IOWA 8, ST. PAUL 3 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints scored three in the first and it was still 3-0 through eight.  In the ninth, however, the Cubs scored eight runs.  They had three doubles, three singles, two walks, and a hit batsman in the inning.

Batting star:  Nick Gordon was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Randy Dobnak struck out five in five innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Lewis Thorpe pitched two shutout innings, giving up a walk and striking out one.  Andrew Vasquez struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Sergio Alcantara was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Andrew Romine was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Taylor Gushue was 2-for-4.

Stats:  Gordon is batting .333.  Roberto Pena was 0-for-4 and is batting .300.  Thorpe has an ERA of zero.  Vasquez has an ERA of 1.80.

Yeltsin Encarncaion was 0-for-4 and is batting .111.  Joe Kerrigan was 1-for-4 and is batting .174.  J. T. Riddle was 1-for-4 and is batting .182.  Keon Broxton was 0-for-3 and is batting .189.  Robinson Leyer pitched two-thirds of an inning scorelessly and has an ERA of 7.71.  Ian Gibaut allowed eight runs in a third of an inning and has an ERA of 20.77.

Record:  The Saints are 5-7, in fifth place, three games behind Omaha.

WICHITA WIND SURGE

Luis Alejandro Basabe hit a two-run homer in the second and the Sod Poodles led the rest of the way.

Batting star:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-3.

Pitching star:  Bryan Sammons struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Dominic Miroglio was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second), three runs, and two RBIs.  Geraldo Perdomo was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Luis Frias pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out three.

Stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-3 and is batting .357.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-4 and is batting .340.  Peter Mooney was 1-for-4 and is batting .333.

The Sod Poodles scored three in the ninth to break a 4-4 tie.  A two-run error allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and three RBIs.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Jovani Moran struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Tom Hackimer struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Alek Thomas was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs.  Tommy Henry pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk and striking out five.

Starter:  Cole Sands struck out five in four innings but allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks.

Stats:  Miranda is batting .370.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .311.  Hackimer has an ERA of zero.  Moran has an ERA of 1.04.

Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-3 and is batting .179.  Celestino is batting .188,

Record:  The Wind Surge is 8-4, in first place, leading Arkansas by a half game.

QUAD CITIES 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 6 IN QUAD CITIES

The Kernels led 6-2 through six, but the River Bandits tied it in the eighth and won it in the ninth.  Seuly Matias delivered an RBI single to end the game.

Batting stars:  Gabe Snyder was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and two runs.  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Matt Wallner was 2-for-4.  Trey Cabbage was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.

Pitching star:  Matt Canterino struck out nine in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  William Hancock was 2-for-4.  Michael Massey was 2-for-5.  Yohanse Morel struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Stats:  Spencer Steer was 1-for-3 and is batting .364.  Wallner is batting .310.  Canterino has an ERA of 1.13.  Melvi Acosta gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 2.16.

Wander Javier was 1-for-4 and is batting .135.  Helman raised his average to .143.  Chris Williams was 1-for-4 and is batting .154.  Owen Griffith allowed three runs (two earned) in an inning and has an ERA of 8.31.  Jonathan Cheshire allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 11.57.

The River Bandits scored in the eighth on a wild pitch to break a 2-2 tie.

Pitching star:  Andrew Cabezas struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Vinnie Pasquantino was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Angel Zerpa pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Jonah Dipoto struck out six in three shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Stats:  Spencer Steer was 1-for-3 and is batting .361.  Leobaldo Cabrera was 1-for-3 and is batting .333.  Cabezas has an ERA of 1.00.
