May 19, 2021: Embarrassing

I can't believe we're still talking about this HR nonsense, and then just how stupid everyone is acting on top of it. I hate agreeing emphatically with Trevor Bauer, you guys!

  1. I was really surprised that Duffey threw at him last night. I said it was a cheap thing for Mercedes to do, and I stand by that, but the Twins hadn't seemed particularly upset, and LaRussa even apologized to Rocco for it. I have to think that was something Duffey did on his own.

        1. I think we need a reporter hounding LaRussa about who ordered the meaning until he cracks and yells, "You're GD right I did!"

    1. Funny, it showed up on my Ipad this morning and my Iphone. But not my Dell here at work.

        1. The image uses an HTTP URL. Some browsers/configurations are stricter about allowing unsecured HTTP links, even images, in secured HTTPS pages. Generally images are "okay" but little else is. I expect full bans to happen at some point.

    2. I managed 5, which is really good for me. My answers

I'm pretty sure my #6 is the one I got wrong

      1. I haven’t done the Invisibles in a while, so thanks for the reminder. I’ve got no idea on 4, but 7 is....

  2. Minor Details is up. Good news at the lower levels, not so good at the higher levels.

    1. Some favorite tidbits of TLR trivia:

      - TLR is the third-oldest manager in MLB history. Both of the men ahead of him — Connie Mack (87 years, 283 days old) & “Trader Jack” McKeon (80 years, 309 days old) — also managed the Athletics before TLR.
      - When TLR became a manager for the first time, he succeeded the last player-manager in the American League (who didn’t even last a full season in the gig).
      - Jerry Reinsdorf has owned the White Sox longer than any other current owner of another franchise. However, TLR can claim that Reinsdorf is the “new guy,” because he was first hired by Reinsdorf’s predecessor, Bill Veeck.
      - TLR was fired by Hawk Harrelson. It’s unclear whether Hawk celebrated by exclaiming, “He gone!”
      - TLR’s boss, Kenny Williams, got called up for cup of coffee a few months after Hawk fired TLR. Williams’ playing career wasn’t was good as Hawk’s, but his tenure as GM was more successful. Naturally, Reinsdorf overruled Williams to hire TLR and fix Hawk’s mistake.
      - Ozzie Guillén was on TLR’s teams in 1985–86. In between TLR’s stints with the White Sox, Ozzie played another 13 seasons, retired, coached for three seasons (winning one World Series, managed for 9 more seasons (winning another World Series), and was fired twice, including once by Kenny Williams.
      - Speaking of Ozzie, he played for TLR in Chicago and coached for Jack McKeon in Florida.
      - TLR was a “bonus baby.” Thirteen bonus babies have been inducted into the HoF as players thus far; TLR made it in as a manager, and Joe Nuxall received the Frick Award.
      - TLR is one of a very small number of managers who earned a JD or passed the bar exam, but he’s neither the only HoFer lawyer/manager, nor hardly the most prominent: Branch Rickey, Miller Huggins, Monte Ward, & Jim O’Rourke.

        Was that Joe Torre?

          1. Pete Rose is the most recent player-manager, but he was in the National League. The last player-manager in the American League was Don Kessinger, who aced out Frank Robinson’s two seasons as Cleveland’s player-manager in 1975-76. Torre’s stint fell in between Robinson’s & Kessinger’s.

    1. I agree. I wish I hadn't remembered it was on just now and started watching it.

    1. And none of them against the Twins.

According to today's broadcast, the Twkns have never been no-hit at home. So they've got that going for them.
