Minor Details: Games of May 30

Home runs carry the Saints.  A Dazzle Special brings home the deciding run for Wichita.  Grand slams carry the Kernels.  Misael Urbina and three pitchers win it for Fort Myers.

ST. PAUL 7, IOWA 3 IN IOWA

The Saints scored three in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.  J. T. Riddle hit a two-run homer to tie it and Brent Rooker homered to put the Saints ahead.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 2-for-4 with a double.  Daniel Descalso was 2-for-4 with a double.  Riddle was 2-for-5 with two two-run homers, his second and third.  Rooker was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fifth.  Ryan Jeffers was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fifth), a walk, and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Ian Hamilton struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Shaun Anderson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  Rob Whalen struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks.

Opposition star:  Jose Lobaton was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Starter:  Bailey Ober struck out eight in four innings but allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Anderson has an ERA of zero.  Whalen has an ERA of 1.69.  Hamilton has an ERA of 1.93.  Ober has an ERA of 2.91.

Bad stats:  Descalso raised his average to .075.  Keon Broxton was 0-for-4 and is batting .159.

Record:  The Saints are 13-11, in second place in the AAA East-Midwest, 3.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 6, SPRINGFIELD 5 IN WICHITA

Jermaine Palacios homered in the seventh to tie it 5-5 and the Wind Surge scored the lead run in the eighth on a wild pitch.

Batting stars:  Palacios was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  David Banuelos was 2-for-4 with a double.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Jovani Moran pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks and striking out two.  Ryan Mason struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ivan Herrera was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs.  Juan Yepez was 2-for-3.  Luken Baker was 1-for-2 with a grand slam (his third homer) and two walks.

Starter:  Bryan Sammons struck out six in four innings but allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-3 and is batting .714.  Miranda is batting .319.  Palacios is batting .311.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-3 and is batting .306.  Moran has an ERA of 1.08.

Bad statsSherman Johnson was 0-for-2 and is batting .107.    Banuelos raised his average to .132.  Sammons has an ERA of 6.45.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 14-10, tied for first with Tulsa in the AA Central-North.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, WISCONSIN 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Wander Javier hit a grand slam in the third to make it 4-0 and Michael Helman hit a grand slam in the ninth to make it 10-4.

Batting stars:  Javier was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, two runs, and five RBIs.  Helman was 1-for-4 with a grand slam (his fourth homer).

Pitching stars:  Ben Gross struck out eight in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.  Melvi Acosta struck out three in two perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Korry Howell was 2-for-4 with a double.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Leobaldo Cabrera was 0-for-3 and is batting .167.  Helman is batting .194.  Javier raised his average to .195.  Owen Griffith gave up a run in 2.1 innings to lower his ERA to 7.71.

Record:  The Kernels are 10-14, in fifth place in the High-A Central-West, 5.5 games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 2, LAKELAND 0 IN LAKELAND

Misael Urbina had an RBI triple in the eighth and scored on a wild pitch, accounting for all the game's runs.

Batting star:  Urbina was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.

Pitching stars:  Hunter McMahon struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Steven Cruz struck out four in two perfect innings.  Bradley Hanner pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.

Opposition star:  Joey Wentz struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Justin Washington was 0-for-3 and is batting .111.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .167.  Charles Mack was 1-for-4 to raise his average to .184.  Yunior Severino was 0-for-3 and is batting .194.  Cruz lowered his ERA to 8.31.
