Minor Details: Games of June 3

Charlie Barnes pitched very well.  The Wind Surge fell behind early.  So did the Kernels.  A big fifth carried the Mighty Mussels.

LOUISVILLE 6, ST. PAUL 2 IN LOUISVILLE

The Saints led 2-0 through seven, but the Cardinals scored six in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Tomas Telis was 2-for-4.  Brent Rooker was 1-for-2 with a home run (his sixth) and two walks.

Pitching star:  Charlie Barnes struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Alfredo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Brantley Bell was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Good stats:  Barnes has an ERA of 2.36.

Bad stats:  Daniel Descalso was 0-for-3 and is batting .070.  Keon Broxton was 1-for-3 and is batting .167.  Drew Maggi was 0-for-5 and is batting .176.  Lewis Thorpe allowed five runs in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 7.27.  Ian Gibaut allowed a run in a third of an inning and has an ERA of 13.03.

Record:  The Saints are 13-12, in second place in the AAA East-Midwest, four games behind Omaha.

ARKANSAS 5, WICHITA 2 IN WICHITA

Brian O'Keefe singled home two in the first and the Travelers led all the way.

Batting stars:  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4 with a double.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Calvin Faucher struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Yennier Cano struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit.

Opposition stars:  O'Keefe was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Jake Scheiner was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Jordan Cowan was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer struck out six in four innings, but allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .571.  Palacios is batting .316.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-5 and is batting .311.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-4 and is batting .308.  Cano has an ERA of 1.32.

Bad stats:  Yeltsin Encarnacion made his AA debut, went 0-for-4, and is batting zero.  Peter Mooney was 0-for-2 and is batting .191.  Faucher lowered his ERA to 7.94.  Schulfer has an ERA of 5.55.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 15-11, tied for first with Tulsa in the AA Central-North.

FORT WAYNE 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN FORT WAYNE

The TinCaps scored three in the second and three in the sixth.

Batting stars:  None.  The Kernels had just two hits.

Pitching stars:  Zach Featherstone struck out five in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Yorman Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double.  Ethan Skender was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Anderson Espinoza struck out three in three perfect innings.

Starter:  Kody Funderburk struck out nine in 4.2 innings, but allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk.

Good stats:  Funderburk has an ERA of 1.57.

Bad stats:  Michael Helman was 0-for-3 and is batting .174.  Wander Javier was 0-for-4 and is batting .178.  Max Smith was 1-for-3 and is batting .188.  Alex Isola was 0-for-2 and is batting .188.  Derek Molina allowed three runs in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 7.24.

Record:  The Kernels are 11-15, in fifth place in the High-A Central-West, 5.5 games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 8, ST. LUCIE 4 IN FORT MYERS

Trailing 3-2, the Mighty Mussels scored five runs in the fifth.

Batting stars:  Edouard Julien was 3-for-5 with a double.  Jeferson Morales was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Charles Mack was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Aaron Sabato was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Keoni Cavaco was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Osiris German struck out eight in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition star:  Randy Adon was 2-for-3 with a double.

Starter:  Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out eleven in 5.2 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks.

Good stats:  Julien is batting .313.

Bad stats:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .154.  Sabato raised his average to .159.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-4 and is batting .167.  Misael Urbina was 0-for-3 and is batting .186.  Yunior Severino was 0-for-2 and is batting .194.  Gipson-Long has an ERA of 7.78.  German lowered his ERA to 5.02.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 13-13, tied for third with Clearwater in the low-A Southeast-West, 5.5 games behind Tampa.
