2021 Game 57: Twins at Royals

Seems like when I'm down on the Twins in these gamelogs they play better, and when I'm optimistic both they and the Wild are awful. I'm starting to suspect that what I write here doesn't actually have an impact on the game, but just in case... Twins were doing good for a while then decided to go right back to blowing it. Against bad teams even. So wee!

Tonight Matt Shoemaker pitches against Brad Keller. That doesn't inspire a whole lot, despite Keller's not being particularly great. So we'll see what they manage tonight. At least the fountain should look good.

  1. Nine runs in a third of an inning will really hurt your ERA. Not that Shoemaker's was so good to start with....

  2. Dazzle points out that Anderson is in kind of a no-win situation here. If he pitches well, he throws multiple innings and probably gets sent back to St. Paul for a fresh arm for the bullpen. But if he pitches poorly, he also might get sent back to St. Paul. Yes, he's still better off to pitch well, but he won't get much of a reward for it.

    1. This is the second time he's given up nine runs, and eight earned, in a start this year. At least last time he had the decency to make it a third of the way through the game.

      1. That game was also against the Royals. That means his start five days ago against them, five runs in 4.1 innings, was his good start.

      1. If they don't DFA Shoemaker now, I assume they're just going to keep him to soak up innings and keep other arms from getting strained on their way to the ocean floor.
