Minor Details: Games of June 13

A tough game for Charlie Barnes.  Jose Miranda stays hot.  So does Wander Javier.  The Mighty Mussels walk their way to a win.

OMAHA 15, ST. PAUL 4 IN ST. PAUL

The Storm Chasers scored seven runs in the fourth to take an 11-1 lead.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 3-for-4 with a double.  Damek Tomscha was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Robinson Leyer pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Ryan McBroom was 3-for-5 with three home runs (his tenth, eleventh, and twelfth) and five RBIs.  Gabriel Cancel was 3-for-5 with a home run (his tenth) and three runs.  Grant Gavin struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks.

Starter:  Charlie Barnes struck out four in three innings, but allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and no walks.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Max Kepler was 0-for-4 in his St. Paul debut and is batting zero.  Daniel Descalso was 0-for-4 and is batting .062.  Keon Broxton was 0-for-2 and is batting .165.  Tomscha is batting .188.  David Banuelos was 0-for-4 and is batting .188.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 0-for-3 and is batting .193.  Andrew Vasquez allowed three runs in two innings and has an ERA of 5.17.  Leyer has an ERA of 5.40.  Juan Minaya gave up a run in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 5.40.  Ian Gibaut gave up three runs in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 9.92.

Record:  The Saints are 17-19, in fourth place in the AAA East-Midwest, 8.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 7, TULSA 1 IN TULSA

The Wind Surge scored six runs in the first two innings.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 3-for-5 with a home run (his eighth), a walk, and two runs.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Roy Morales was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Josh Winder struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.  Yennier Cano pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.  Jason Garcia pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Noda was 1-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.  Mark Washington pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .307.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-3 and is batting .303.  Garcia has an ERA of zero.  Cano has an ERA of 1.47.  Winder has an ERA of 2.16.

Bad stats:  Leobaldo Cabrera was 1-for-5 and is batting .077.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-5 and is batting .143.  Peter Mooney was 0-for-5 and is batting .160.

BELOIT 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN BELOIT

The Snappers scored five in the second and it really wasn't as close as the final score makes it sound.

Batting stars:  Gabe Snyder was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his sixth), a walk, and two runs.  Wander Javier was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his fifth.

Pitching stars:  Luis Rijo struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two walks.  Tyler Beck struck out two in two perfect innings.  Jonathan Cheshire struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Tevin Mitchell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Troy Johnston was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.  Evan Brabrand pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out three.

Good stats:  Rijo has an ERA of zero.  Beck has an ERA of 2.57.

Bad statsDerek Molina allowed two runs in two innings and has an ERA of 7.45.  Tyler Palm allowed five runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 10.05.

Record:  The Kernels are 17-19, tied for fourth with Beloit in the High-A Central-West, 5.5 games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 4, JUPITER 3 IN JUPITER

The Mighty Mussels scored three in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead, then held on.

Batting star:  Edouard Julien was 1-for-3 with two walks.  The Mighty Mussels had just three hits but drew eight walks.

Pitching stars:  Casey Legumina pitched a scoreless inning and struck out one.  Zarion Sharpe struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Steven Cruz struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Erik Manoah, Jr. retired all four men he faced, striking out three.  Matthew Swain pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Juan Pichardo pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Sam Bordner struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Joey Steele struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Good stats:  Julien is batting .302.  Manoah, Jr. has an ERA of zero.  Pichardo has an ERA of 0.53.
