Minor Details: Games of June 20

Jose Miranda and Ernie De La Trinidad stay hot.  A pair of Tylers pitch well for the Kernels.  The Mighty Mussels don't hit much, but they keep winning.

The game was tied 3-3 after four innings when it was suspended.  The game will be completed on August 17.

SPRINGFIELD 8, WICHITA 7 IN WICHITA

The Wind Surge trailed 8-1 through five and a half, but scored three in the sixth and three in the seventh to get back into it.  However, their last seven batters were retired.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his tenth and eleventh) and three runs.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fifth) and two runs.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his eighth.  Nick Garland was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Mason pitched 1.2 scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.  Alex Phillips struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Brendan Donovan was 4-for-5 with two RBIs.  Ivan Herrera was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and a walk.  Edgar Escobar retired all seven men he faced, striking out three.

Starter:  Jordan Balazovic pitched 4.1 innings, allowing six runs on ten hits and a walk and striking out three.

Good stats:  De La Trinidad is batting .328.  Miranda is batting .323.  Hector Lujan retired both men he faced and has an ERA of 2.49.

Bad stats:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-3 and is batting .111.  Balazovic has an ERA of 6.43.  Jhonleider Salinas allowed two runs in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 10.80.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 23-19, in first place in the AA Central-North, a half game ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, SOUTH BEND 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Trey Cabbage hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Kernels led all the way.

Batting stars:  Spencer Steer was 3-for-3 with two walks, three runs, and two RBIs.  Alex Isola was 2-for-4.  Seth Gray was 2-for-5 with a home run (his fifth), two runs, and three RBIs.  Cabbage was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his seventh.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Beck struck out seven in three innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks.  Tyler Watson struck out three in 2.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk.  Derek Molina pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.  Owen Griffith struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Bradlee Beasley was 2-for-5.

Good stats:  Max Smith was 0-for-1 and is batting .308.  Beck has an ERA of 2.63.  Watson has an ERA of 2.96.

Bad stats:  Molina has an ERA of 5.84.  Griffith has an ERA of 6.27.

Record:  The Kernels are 22-20, in second place in the high-A Central-West, six games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 3, LAKELAND 1 IN FORT MYERS

The Mighty Mussels led 3-0 after three.

Batting stars:  Aaron Sabato was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.

Pitching stars:  Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and three walks.  Steven Cruz struck out two in a perfect inning.  John Wilson pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out one.  Erik Manoah, Jr. pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Colt Keith was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Derek Hill was 2-for-5 with a double.   Michael Bienlien struck out three in two perfect innings.

Good stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 1-for-3 and is batting .305.  Wilson has an ERA of zero.  Manoah, Jr. has an ERA of zero.
