ST. PAUL 8, COLUMBUS 3 IN COLUMBUS

Mark Contreras hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Saints up 5-3.  They added three more in the seventh.

Batting stars:  Contreras was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second.  Damek Tomscha was 2-for-4 with a double.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Brent Rooker was 1-for-4 with a home run (his eleventh) and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Danny Coulombe retired all five men he faced, striking out one.  Ian Gibaut struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Johnson was 2-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and a walk.  Gabriel Arias was 2-for-4.

Starter:  Chandler Shepherd pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks.  He struck out none.

Good stats:  Coulombe has an ERA of 1.77.

Bad stats:  Keon Broxton was 0-for-4 and is batting .153.  Kerrigan is batting .196.  Shepherd has an ERA of 6.16.  Gibaut has an ERA of 8.38

Record:  The Saints are 20-22, in fourth place in the AAA East-Midwest, 9.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 6, MIDLAND 1 IN MIDLAND

Jose Miranda homered in the first and B. J. Boyd hit a two-run homer in the second to put the Wind Surge up 3-0.

Batting stars:  Miranda was 4-for-5 with a home run (his twelfth), a double, and two runs.  Boyd was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second) and a walk.  Andrew Bechtold was 2-for-4 with a double.  Roy Morales was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Austin Schulfer struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Zach Neff struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Nick Allen was 2-for-4 with a double.  Aiden McIntyre struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .337.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 0-for-2 and is batting .323.  Neff has an ERA of 1.93.

Bad stats:  Peter Mooney was 0-for-4 and is batting .154.  Brandon Koch gave up a run in 1.2 innings and has an ERA of 5.25.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 24-19, in first place in the AA Central-North, a half game ahead of Tulsa.

Trailing 2-0, the Mighty Mussels scored five in the third.  Yunior Severino hit a two-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Severino was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his second), two walks, and two runs.  Edouard Julien was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Carlos Suniaga struck out two in two perfect innings.  Osiris German struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two walks.

Opposition stars:  Jordan Walker was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his sixth), a walk, and two runs.  Jacob Buchberger was 2-for-4.  Dionys Rodriguez struck out six in three shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Starter:  Zarion Sharpe struck out six in three innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.

Good stats:  Julien is batting .318.  Suniaga has an ERA of zero.
