Minor Details: Games of July 4

Strong starts from Chandler Shepherd, Jason Garcia, and Jon Olsen.  Strong batting from Jimmy Kerrigan.

OMAHA 10, ST. PAUL 6 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints led 3-0 through five, but the Storm Chasers put up seven in the sixth.  They hit three home runs in the inning.

Batting stars:  Jimmy Kerrigan was 3-for-4.  Keon Broxton, still smarting from criticism at the WGOM, was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and two runs.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Chandler Shepherd pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks and striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Rudy Martin was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs.  Ryan McBroom was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixteenth), a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.  Meibrys Viloria was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and a walk.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 and is batting .385.

Bad stats:  Broxton is batting .179.  Roberto Pena was 0-for-3 and is batting .182.  Nick Vincent allowed two runs in one inning and has an ERA of 5.40.  Beau Burrows gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 5.75.  Shepherd has an ERA of 5.85.  Joe Harvey made his Saints debut by giving up four runs in a third of an inning and has an ERA of 108.00.

Record:  The Saints are 25-28, in fourth place in the AAA East/Midwest, nine games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 3, AMARILLO 2 IN AMARILLO

The Wind Surge scored all three of their runs in the sixth.

Batting star:  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Jason Garcia struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.  Ryan Mason struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Dominic Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a home run, his seventh.  Matt Tabor struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up three unearned runs on six hits and four walks.

Good stats:  Spencer Steer was 1-for-5 and is batting .320.  Jovani Moran gave up one run in two innings and has an ERA of 1.91.  Mason has an ERA of 2.67.

Bad stats:  Peter Mooney was 1-for-4 and is batting .163.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 31-23, in first place in the AA Central/North, a half game ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, QUAD CITIES 3 IN QUAD CITIES

It was scoreless until the River Bandits scored seven in the seventh.  Edouard Julien hit a three-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Kyle Schmidt was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Daniel Ozoria was 2-for-4 with a double.  Michael Helman was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his eighth) and two runs.  Max Smith was 2-for-5 with a double.  Julien was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer (his second) and three walks.

Pitching stars:  Jon Olsen pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks and striking out two.  Derek Molina struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Erik Manoah, Jr. pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Vinnie Pasquantino was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  John Rave was 2-for-4.  Noah Murdock struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Schmidt is batting .400.  Manoah, Jr. has an ERA of zero.  Zach Featherstone retired both men he faced and has an ERA of 1.52.

Bad statsYeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-4 and is batting .167.  Molina has an ERA of 5.12.

Record:  The Kernels are 28-26, in second place in the High-A Central/West, eight games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 6, BRADENTON 5 IN FORT MYERS (10 INNINGS)

Misael Urbina doubled home the tying run in the tenth and a sacrifice fly brought home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Urbina was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Nick Anderson was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Steven Cruz struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Osiris German struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Matthew Swain pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Yoyner Fajardo was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Endy Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a double.  Domingo Gonzalez struck out nine in five innings of relief, giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks.

Starter:  Bobby Milacki pitched four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and no walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  German has an ERA of 2.63.

Bad stats:  Anderson is batting .147.  Wander Valdez was 0-for-3 and is batting .158.  Will Holland was 1-for-4 and is batting .178.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-5 and is batting .184.  Justin Washington was 1-for-4 and is batting .188.
