Minor Details: Games of July 17

Brent Rooker goes deep again.  Jordan Gore remains perfect in AA.  Tyler Watson has another good game.  Orlando Rodriguez is very good in his Class A debut.

ST. PAUL 8, COLUMBUS 0 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints scored four in the third to take a 5-0 lead.  Brent Rooker hit a three-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Mark Contreras was 2-for-3 with a home run, his tenth.  Drew Stankiewicz was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Rooker was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his nineteenth) and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Matt Shoemaker pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks and striking out three.  Jovani Moran struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Kyle Barraclough retired all four men he faced, striking out two.

Opposition stars:  None.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-5 and is batting .353.  Shoemaker has an ERA of zero.  Moran made his AAA debut and has an ERA of zero.

Bad stats:  Keon Broxton was 1-for-2 and is batting .190.

WICHITA 8, TULSA 7 IN WICHITA (10 INNINGS)

The Wind Surge trailed 7-1 but scored three in the sixth and three in the seventh.  An error brought home the deciding run, as the Drillers dropped and infield popup.

Batting stars:  B. J. Boyd was 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs.  Trey Cabbage was 1-for-3 with two walks.

Pitching stars:  Mitchell Osnowitz pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.  Jordan Gore pitched two perfect innings and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Rincon was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Donovan Casey was 3-for-5.  Michael Busch was 2-for-3 with a home run (his eleventh), two walks, and two runs.

Starter:  Chris Vallimont struck out seven in 3.1 innings, but allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-5 and is batting .304.  Gore has an ERA of zero.

Bad stats:  D. J. Burt was 1-for-5 and is batting .197.  Jhonleider Salinas gave up two runs in three innings and has an ERA of 9.82.

SOUTH BEND 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN SOUTH BEND

It was tied at two through seven, but the Cubs scored five in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Gabriel Maciel was 2-for-2 with two walks.  Kyle Schmidt was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Wander Javier was 1-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.

Pitching star:  Tyler Watson struck out nine in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Delvin Zinn was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Samuel Reyes struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Starter:  Andrew Cabezas pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.  He struck out two.  This was his first game since coming off the injured list, and one assumes he was on a pitch count.

Good stats:  Watson has an ERA of 1.88

Bad stats:  Osiris German allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 13.50.

FORT MYERS 7, JUPITER 5 IN FORT MYERS

The Mighty Mussels built a 7-1 lead before the Hammerheads scored four in the ninth.  They had the tying run on base when the game ended.

Batting stars:  Ruben Santana was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Will Holland was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fifth), a double, a walk, and three RBIs.  Charles Mack was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Orlando Rodriguez pitched seven innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk and striking out six in his Class A debut.

Opposition stars:  Davis Bradshaw was 3-for-4 with a double.  Dalvy Rosario was 3-for-5 with a double.  Zack Kone was 2-for-4 with a double.

Good stats:  Rodriguez has an ERA of 1.29.

Bad stats:  Nick Anderson was 0-for-3 and is batting .148.  Jesus Feliz was 0-for-4 and is batting .179.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-4 and is batting .192.  Carlos Suniaga allowed four runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 5.79.
