Minor Details: Games of July 20

Drew Maggi homers again.  Another fine game for Jordan Balazovic.  Jair Camargo hits another homer.  A good game for Misael Urbina.

ST. PAUL 6, OMAHA 4 IN OMAHA (10 INNINGS)

Drew Maggi homered in the ninth to tie it 4-4 and the Saints scored two in the tenth to win it.

Batting stars:  Jake Cave was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.  Rob Refsnyder was 1-for-2 with a home run, his third.  Maggi was 1-for-4 with a home run, his tenth.

Pitching stars:  Chandler Shepherd struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks.  Kyle Barraclough pitched a scoreless inning, giving a hit and two walks and striking out one.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Ian Hamilton struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Rudy Martin was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Kyle Isbel was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Sebastian Rivero was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Good stats:  Cave is batting .381.  Miranda is batting .346.  Hamilton has an ERA of 1.16.

Bad stats:  Shepherd has an ERA of 6.38.

Record:  The Saints are 34-32, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 6.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 4, ARKANSAS 1 IN ARKANSAS

The Wind Surge led 2-0 through seven, then Trey Cabbage hit a two-run homer in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Roy Morales was 3-for-5 with a triple and a double.  Cabbage was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), a double, and three RBIs.  D. J. Burt was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching star:  Jordan Balazovic pitched seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk and striking out six.

Opposition stars:  Dom Thompson-Williams was 2-for-4 with a double.  Joe Rizzo was 2-for-4.  Alejandro Requena pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks and striking out three.

Good stats:  Jordan Gore pitched two-thirds of an inning without giving up a run and kept his ERA at zero.  Balazovic has an ERA of 2.44.  Zach Neff gave up a run in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 2.96.

Bad stats:  Spencer Steer was 0-for-5 and is batting .192.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 38-29, in first place in the AA Central/North, 2.5 games ahead of Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, BELOIT 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Michael Helman's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth brought home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Jair Camargo was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his thirteenth.  Matt Wallner was 1-for-2 with a home run (his fifth) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Beck struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and no walks.  Derek Molina struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Marcos Rivera was 2-for-4 with a double.  Kameron Misner was 2-for-4.  Kyle Nicolas struck out ten in six innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk.

Good stats:  Wallner is batting .338.  Beck has an ERA of 2.28.  Zach Featherstone struck out both men he faced and has an ERA of 2.90.

Bad stats:  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-3 and is batting .192.

Record:  The Kernels are 37-30, in second place in the High-A Central/West, eight games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 8, DAYTONA 7 IN FORT MYERS

Trailing 7-2, the Mighty Mussels scored six runs in the eighth.  The six runs were walked in:  three of the runs were walked in, one scored on a passed ball, and one scored on an error.  They drew six walks and had one hit batsman in the inning.

Batting stars:  Misael Urbina was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-2 with three walks.

Pitching star:  Denny Bentley pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Austin Hendrick was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his third) and two runs.  Allan Cerda was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and two runs.  Christian Roa pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks and striking out three.

Starter:  Aaron Rozek struck out eight in seven innings, but gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and no walks.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Jesus Feliz was 0-for-3 and is batting .156.  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-2 and is batting .188.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .197.  Carlos Suniaga gave up two runs in one inning and has an ERA of 6.60.
