Minor Details: Games of August 4

I'm ba-ack.  We will not try to recap the games we missed, but will just pick up with yesterday's action.

An excellent game from Andrew Albers.  Austin Martin wins one in the ninth.  Tyler Watson has a rare poor game.  Aaron Sabato finds his power.

ST. PAUL 12, LOUISVILLE 2 IN ST. PAUL

Mark Contreras hit a two-run homer in the first and the Saints led the rest of the way.

Batting stars:  Tomas Telis was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Damek Tomscha was 2-for-3 with a home run (his ninth), a double, a walk, and four RBIs.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his second), a walk, and two runs.  Roberto Pena was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-5.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 1-for-3 with a home run (his thirteenth) and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Andrew Albers pitched seven innings, giving up one run on eight hits and one walk and striking out five.  Ryan Mason struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Alejo Lopez was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fourth), a walk, and two runs.

Good stats:  Celestino is batting .385.  Miranda is batting .356.

Bad stats:  Mason has an ERA of 9.00

Record:  The Saints are 42-37, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 3.5 games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 7, MIDLAND 6 IN WICHITA

The Wind Surge led 4-1 and 5-2, then fell behind 6-5.  A sacrifice fly tied it in the eighth and Austin Martin's RBI single won it in the ninth.

Batting stars:  Martin was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourteenth.  Spencer Steer was 1-for-3 with a home run (his ninth) and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Adam Lau struck out two in two innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Jordan Gore pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Edwin Diaz was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer (his third) and a walk.  Max Schuemann was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs.  J. J. Schwarz was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Starter:  Bryan Sammons struck out six in 4.1 innings, but allowed four runs on four hits and four walks.

Good stats:  Martin is batting .500.  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-3 and is batting .304.

Bad stats:  Lau has an ERA of 6.05.  Sammons has an ERA of 7.18.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 46-34, in first place in the AA Central/North, four games ahead of Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas, and Tulsa.

QUAD CITIES 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The River Bandits scored four in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.  Logan Porter hit a two-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  Max Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run (his sixth) and a walk.  DaShawn Keirsey was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Alex Isola was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Osiris German struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and two walks.  Ryan Shreve struck out three in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Tucker Bradley was 2-for-4.  Jake Means was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his eighth) and a walk.  Porter was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his ninth.

Starter:  Tyler Watson pitched 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on four hits and two walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  Yunior Severino was 1-for-3 and is batting .375.  Watson has an ERA of 2.61.

Bad stats:  Edouard Julien was 1-for-5 and is batting .193.  Keirsey is batting .194.

Record:  The Kernels are 44-36, in second place in the High-A Central/West, ten games behind Quad Cities.

DUNEDIN 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Blue Jays scored three in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead.  Aaron Sabato hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-4, but the Mighty Mussels got just one hit after that.

Batting star:  Sabato was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, his fifth.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Rozek struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.  Carlos Suniaga retired all four men he faced, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  MacKenzie Mueller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Riley Tirotta was 2-for-3 with two runs.  Trent Palmer struck out seven in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

Starter:  Casey Legumina struck out two in two innings, giving up one run on one hit and one walk.  Legumina is normally a reliever, but has also been used as an opener.

Good stats:  Rozek has an ERA of 2.65.

Bad stats:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 1-for-3 and is batting .180.  Sabato is batting .187.  Jesus Feliz was 0-for-3 and is batting .195.  Will Holland was 0-for-3 and is batting .199.

FORT MYERS 6, DUNEDIN 5 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Mighty Mussels trailed 1-0, led 2-1, trailed 3-2, led 5-3, and were tied 5-5 after five.  Will Holland homered in the sixth to put Fort Myers over the top.,

Batting stars:  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-2 with a home run(his sixth) and three RBIs.  Misael Urbina was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Holland was 1-for-3 with a home run, his seventh.

Pitching star:  Steven Cruz struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Riley Tirotta was 2-for-3.  Addison Barger was 1-for-3 with a home run (his twelfth), two runs, and two RBIs.

Starter:  Sean Mooney struck out three in 2.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks.

Good stats:  Mooney has an ERA of 0.98.  Orlando Rodriguez gave up three runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings and has an ERA of 2.45.

Bad stats:  Nick Garland was 0-for-2 and is batting .100.  Justin Washington was 0-for-1 and is batting .156.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .178.  Sabato is batting .189.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 41-36, in third place in the Low-A Southeast/West, thirteen games behind Tampa.
