Minor Details: Games of August 26

Randy Dobnak made a rehab start in St. Paul.  Trey Cabbage was the lone bright spot for Wichita.  Michael Helman and Sawyer Gipson-Long lead Cedar Rapids.  Jake Rucker gets the big hit for Fort Myers.

TOLEDO 9, ST. PAUL 8 IN TOLEDO (11 INNINGS)

The Saints led 6-1 in the sixth, but three in the sixth and two in the ninth tied it.  Aderlin Rodriguez singled in the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Sherman Johnson was 3-for-5.  Gilberto Celestino was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-6 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Randy Dobnak pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and four walks and striking out two.  Ryan Mason struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Chandler Shepherd pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Kody Clemens was 3-for-6 with a double and two runs.  Aderlin Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his twenty-fourth), two walks, two runs, and three RBIs.  Christin Stewart was 2-for-5.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-6 and is batting .329.

Bad stats:  B. J. Boyd was 0-for-1 and is batting zero.  In two of the three games he's played, he's been a pinch-hitter.  I don't know why they promoted him if they don't intend to play him.  Trevor Larnach was 1-for-4 and is batting .167.  J. T. Riddle was 1-for-4 and is batting .189.  Nick Vincent gave up three runs (one earned) in two innings and has an ERA of 5.32.  Mason has an ERA of 5.40.  Shepherd has an ERA of 5.75.  Robinson Leyer gave up two runs (one earned) in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 6.94.

Record:  The Saints are 53-46, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 3.5 games behind Toledo.

TULSA 4, WICHITA 2 IN WICHITA

The Drillers scored three in the fourth.  The Wind Surge did not score until the ninth.

Batting star:  Trey Cabbage was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his sixteenth) and two walks.

Pitching stars:  Mitchell Osnowitz struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Adam Lau retired all four men he faced, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Hunter Feduccia was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Michael Busch was 2-for-4.  Jose Martinez struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Starter:  Jordan Balazovic pitched six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk and striking out five.

Good stats:  Roy Morales was 0-for-4 and was batting .306.

Bad stats:  Caleb Hamilton was 0-for-3 and is batting .195.  Lau has an ERA of 5.72.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 58-41, in first place in the AA Central/North, four games ahead of Arkansas and Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BELOIT 0 IN BELOIT

The Kernels scored two in the second and never trailed.  The Snappers had nine hits.

Batting stars:  Michael Helman was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer (his sixteenth), a triple and two runs.  Wander Javier was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer (his twelfth) and three runs.  Edouard Julien was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

Pitching starsSawyer Gipson-Long struck out nine in six shutout innings, giving up six hits and walking none.  Tyler Palm struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Osiris German pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Opposition star:  Victor Mesa was 2-for-4.

Good stats:  Severino is batting .383.  Jeferson Morales was 0-for-4 and is batting .356.  Gipson-Long has an ERA of 2.12.

Bad stats:  German has an ERA of 5.51.  Palm has an ERA of 5.63.

FORT MYERS 4, BRADENTON 2 IN FORT MYERS

Trailing 2-0, the Mighty Mussels scored one in the third and three in the fourth.  Jake Rucker hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning.

Batting stars:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Rucker was 1-for-1 with a triple, three walks, two runs, and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Sean Mooney struck out ten in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.  Logan Campbell pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks and striking out two.  Zaquiel Puentes pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Wandi Montout struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and three walks.  Nick Dombkowski struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.
