COLUMBUS 8, ST. PAUL 1 IN COLUMBUS

It was scoreless until the third, when the Clippers scored five runs.  Oscar Gonzalez hit a three-run homer in the inning.

Batting stars:  None.  The Saints had just two hits.

Pitching star:  Chris Nunn struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Steven Kwan was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs, and five RBIs.  Jose Fermin was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Cody Morris struck out seven in five innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Starter:  Chandler Shepherd pitched four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks and striking out one.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-4 and is batting .329.

Bad stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 0-for-1 in his AAA debut and is batting zero.  B. J. Boyd was 0-for-4 and is batting .050.  David Banuelos was 0-for-2 and is batting .182.  Shepherd has an ERA of 5.81.

The Travelers scored one in the first and five in the sixth.  The Wind Surge was no-hit.

Opposition stars:  Matt Brash struck out eleven in six no-hit innings, giving up one walk.  Julio Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jake Scheiner was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Starter:  Cole Sands pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  Roy Morales was 0-for-2 and is batting .309.  Kody Funderburk gave up three unearned runs in three innings and has an ERA of zero.

Bad stats:  Gabe Snyder was 0-for-3 and is batting zero.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 61-44, in first place in the AA Central/West, four games ahead of Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS 10, QUAD CITIES 9 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored four in the third and five in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead, but the River Bandits tied it with five in the ninth.  A bases-loaded fielder's choice brought home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Michael Helman was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his seventeenth), a walk, and three runs.  Yunior Severino was 1-for-4 with a grand slam (his second homer) and five RBIs.

Pitching star:  Zach Featherstone struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Maikel Garcia was 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks, and two runs.  Eric Cole was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Starter:  Cody Laweryson pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  Severino is batting .351.  Anthony Prato was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.  Featherstone has an ERA of 2.37.

Bad stats:  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-2 and is batting .192.

The game was suspended due to rain in the third inning with the Mighty Mussels leading 3-1.  It will be completed today.
