Minor Details: Games of September 3

Drew Maggi's gifts aren't enough for St. Paul.  Stevie Berman makes a good debut for Wichita.  Jeferson Morales keeps hitting.  So does Christian Encarnacion-Strand.

COLUMBUS 7, ST. PAUL 6 IN COLUMBUS

The Saints came back from a 6-1 deficit only to see the Clippers win on a bases-loaded hit batsman in the bottom of the ninth.

Batting star:  Drew Maggi was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourteenth), a double, and four RBIs.

Pitching star:  Nick Vincent retired all four men he faced, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Oscar Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his twelfth) and two RBIs.  Steven Kwan was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Tanner Tully struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Starter:  Drew Strotman struck out six in five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and no walks.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-4 and is batting .328.

Bad stats:  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .083.  Vincent has an ERA of 5.19.

Record:  The Saints are 54-51, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 6.5 games behind Toledo.

WICHITA 6, ARKANSAS 5 IN ARKANSAS (10 INNINGS)

A sacrifice fly in the ninth brought home the tying run and another sacrifice fly in the tenth brought home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Stevie Berman was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and four RBIs.  D. J. Burt was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Ben Gross struck out seven in four innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.  Jordan Gore struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Julio Rodriguez was 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs.  Jake Scheiner was 2-for-5 with a home run, his sixteenth.  Brandon Williamson struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up one hit and three walks.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer struck out five in four innings, but gave up four runs on six hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Roy Morales was 0-for-4 and is batting .305.  Gore has an ERA of 1.59.  Gross has an ERA of 2.25.

Bad stats:  Kyle Snyder was 0-for-3 and is batting zero.  Berman is batting .176.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 62-44, in first place in the AA Central/North five games ahead of Arkansas.

QUAD CITIES 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The River Bandits scored three in the fourth and five in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead.

Batting stars:  Jeferson Morales was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Seth Gray was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and three runs.  Edouard Julien was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Daniel Ozoria was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Andrew Cabezas pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Nathan Eaton was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth) and four RBIs.  Nick Loftin was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Rubendy Jaquez was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Starter:  Sean Mooney struck out six in four innings, but allowed five runs on five hits and a walk.

Good stats:  Yunior Severino was 1-for-4 and is batting .347.  Morales is batting .323.

Bad stats:  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-4 and is batting .172.  Osiris German gave up three runs in one inning and has an ERA of 6.30.  Mooney has an ERA of 11.25.

Record:  The Kernels are 58-48, in second place in the High-A Central/West, twelve games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 5, DAYTONA 1 IN DAYTONA (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Leading 3-1, Fort Myers added two in the fifth.

Batting stars:  Jesus Feliz was 3-for-4.  Christian Encarnacion-Strand was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Patrick Winkel was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching stars:  John Stankiewicz struck out three in 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.  Casey Legumina pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out five.  Bradley Hanner pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Danny Lantigua was 2-for-3 with a double.  Anthony Zimmerman struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Good stats:  Encarnacion-Strand is batting .378.  Stankiewicz has an ERA of 2.70.

Bad stats:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-3 and is batting .188.  Hanner has an ERA of 7.41.

DAYTONA 5, FORT MYERS 2 IN DAYTONA (SCHEDULED GAME--7 INNINGS)

The Tortugas scored two in the third and three in the fifth.

Opposition stars:  Miguel Medrano pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks and striking out four.  Justice Thompson was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his second) and a walk.

Starter:  Miguel Rodriguez struck out five in 2.1 innings but gave up two runs on two hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Christian Encarnacion-Strand was 1-for-3 and is batting .375.

Bad stats:  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 0-for-2 and is batting .187.  Urbina is batting .189.  Campbell has an ERA of 6.38.  Juan Pichardo allowed three runs in 2.2 innings and has an ERA of 6.86.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 51-51, in third place in the Low-A Southeast/West, sixteen games behind Quad Cities.
