Minor Details: Games of September 8

An offensive explosion in St. Paul.  Jordan Gore keeps getting 'em out.  A fine game by Cody Laweryson.  Rain was the winner in Fort Myers.

ST. PAUL 17, OMAHA 3 IN ST. PAUL

It was 5-3 through six, but the Saints scored six in the seventh and six in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Drew Maggi was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fifteenth), a walk, and three runs.  David Banuelos was 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs, and six RBIs.  Jose Miranda was 3-for-6 with a home run (his thirteenth), a double, two runs, and two RBIs.  Tomas Telis was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his tenth), a double, and a walk.  B. J. Boyd was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Mark Contreras was 2-for-6.  J. T. Riddle was 1-for-4 with a grand slam, his sixth homer.

Pitching stars:  Chris Nunn pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.  Chandler Shepherd pitched two shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Nick Dini was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Bobby Witt, Jr. was 1-for-5 with a home run, his thirteenth.  Carlos Sanabria pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.

Starter:  Drew Strotman struck out six in 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .330.  Telis is batting .305.

Bad stats:  Shepherd has an ERA of 5.69.

Record:  The Saints were 57-53, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, seven games behind Toledo.

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS 1, WICHITA 0 IN WICHITA

The game's lone run scored in the eighth on a Brewer Hecklin single.

Batting stars:  Roy Morales was 3-for-4.  D. J. Burt was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Austin Schulfer struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and five walks.  Ben Gross pitched 3.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks and struck out three.  Jordan Gore pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Hicklen was 2-for-3.  Angel Zerpa struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up three hits.  Daniel Tillo pitched two shutout innings, walking one and striking out one.

Good stats:  Morales is batting .309.  Gore has an ERA of 1.52.  Gross has an ERA of 2.35.

Bad stats:  Stevie Berman was 0-for-3 and is batting .168.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 63-47, in first place in the AA Central/North, three games ahead of Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, WISCONSIN 5 IN WISCONSIN

Edouard Julien hit a two-run homer in the third and the Kernels never looked back, building a 9-0 lead.

Batting stars:  Matt Wallner was 3-for-5 with a home run (his thirteenth), a double, two runs, and two RBIs.  Seth Gray was 3-for-5 with a double.  Michael Helman was 2-for-5 with a home run (his eighteenth) and three RBIs.  Julien was 1-for-3 with a home run (his eleventh), two walks, two runs, and three RBIs.  Alex Isola was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, his fourteenth.

Pitching stars:  Cody Laweryson struck out nine in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  Melvi Acosta struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Joey Wiemer was 3-for-4.  Carlos Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Cristian Sierra pitched two perfect innings and struck out one.

Good stats:  Yunior Severino was 0-for-4 and is batting .326.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-5 and is batting .311.

Bad stats:  DaShawn Keirsey was 0-for-4 and is batting .177.  Steven Cruz allowed four runs (three earned) in one-third of an inning in his High-A debut and has an ERA of 81.00.

Record:  The Kernels are 60-50, in second place in the High-A Central/West, twelve games behind Quad Cities.

The game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth with Fort Myers leading 3-2.  It will be completed today before the scheduled game.
