Minor Details: Games of September 19

A bad day for Drew Strotman.  A good day for Austin Martin.  Lots of good days for Cedar Rapids.  A comeback win to close out the Fort Myers season.

INDIANAPOLIS 10, ST. PAUL 3 IN INDIANAPOLIS

The Saints led 3-2, but the Indians scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Batting stars:  Drew Stankiewicz was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Vinny Nittoli struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Chris Nunn pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Diego Castillo was 2-for-4 with a walk and four runs.  Tucupita Marcano was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Taylor Davis was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Starter:  Drew Strotman pitched four innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 and is batting .333.  Gilberto Celestino was 1-for-4 and is batting .310.  Nunn has an ERA of 2.63.

Bad stats:  Ernie Yake was 0-for-1 in his AAA debut and is batting zero.  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-4 and is batting .186.  Strotman has an ERA of 5.13.

Record:  The Saints are 61-59, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, eight games behind Toledo.

WICHITA 11, ARKANSAS 6 IN WICHITA

The Wind Surge led 7-1 after two.

Batting stars:  Austin Martin was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks, and three runs.  Spencer Steer was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourteenth) and five RBIs.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4 with a double.  D. J. Burt was 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-4 with a home run, his eighteenth.

Pitching stars:  Simeon Woods Richardson pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks and striking out one.  Alex Phillips pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Erik Manoah, Jr. pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Julio Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with a double.  Joe Rizzo was 3-for-5.  Nate Fisher retired all eight men he faced, striking out one.

Starter:  Ben Gross struck out four in four innings but allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Roy Morales was 1-for-3 and is batting .306.  Jordan Gore gave up a run in one inning and has an ERA of 1.61.

Bad stats:  Phillips has an ERA of 5.44.  Woods Richardson has an ERA of 6.75.  Gross has an ERA of 6.75.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 69-51, in first place in the AA Central/North, 4.5 games ahead of Northwest Arkansas.  Wichita has clinched a playoff spot.

CEDAR RAPIDS 11, PEORIA 0 IN PEORIA

Two-run homers by Edouard Julien and Matt Wallner put the Kernels ahead 4-0 in the third.

Batting stars:  Daniel Ozoria was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.  Wallner was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fifteenth), a double, and two runs.  Aaron Sabato was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  DaShawn Keirsey was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his sixth and seventh) and three RBIs.  Julien was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his fifteenth), a double, a walk, and two runs.  Alex Isola was 2-for-5 with two doubles.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Rozek pitched five shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out four.  Denny Bentley struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Carlos Suniaga pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Andrew Cabezas pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Zade Richardson was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Jack Ralston struck out two and walked two in two shutout innings.

Good stats:  Bentley has an ERA of 1.93.  Zach Featherstone retired both men he faced and has an ERA of 2.13.

Bad stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 1-for-2 and is batting .185.  Keirsey is batting .199.  Suniaga has an ERA of 7.88.

Record:  The Kernels are 67-53, in second place in the High-A Central/West, eleven games behind Quad Cities.  The standings board on milb.com doesn't say so, but the Kernels facebook page says they're in the playoffs, so I assume they are.

FORT MYERS 5, TAMPA 4 IN FORT MYERS

Fort Myers scored two in the eighth to overcome a 4-3 deficit.  Patrick Winkel singled home the tying run and Mikey Perez doubled in the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Perez was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Willie Joe Garry, Jr. was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Christian Encarnacion-Strand was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Kyler Fedco was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Brent Headrick struck out seven in three shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Zarion Sharpe pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out three.  Ramon Pineda pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  A. J. Labas struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Pedro Diaz was 2-for-4.  Kenlly Montas pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.

Good stats:  Perez is batting .500.  Encarnacion-Strand is batting .391.

Bad stats:  Misael Urbina was 0-for-4 and is batting .191.  Garry, Jr. is batting .197.  Pineda has an ERA of 6.00.  David Festa gave up three runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 10.80.  Labas has an ERA of 11.00.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 60-54, in third place in the Low-A Southeast/West, twelve games behind Tampa.
