ST. PAUL 3, IOWA 1 IN ST. PAUL

All the runs for both teams came in the third inning.  Jose Miranda hit a three-run homer.

Batting stars:  Miranda was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his sixteenth) and a walk.  Sherman Johnson was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Charlie Barnes struck out four in four innings, giving up a run on six hits and no walks.  Beau Burrows struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition star:  Abiatal Avelino was 2-for-4.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .338.

Bad stats:  Caleb Hamilton was 0-for-3 and is batting .158.  Burrows has an ERA of 5.16.

Brewer Hicklen hit a grand slam in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.

Pitching stars:  Kody Funderburk pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk and striking out two.  Jordan Gore pitched two perfect innings and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Freddy Fermin was 2-for-4.  Hicklen was 1-for-4 with a grand slam, his second homer of the series.  Nolan Watson pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out one.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer struck out four in four innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks.

Record:  The Wind Surge loses the best-of-five series, 0-3.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, QUAD CITIES 4 IN QUAD CITIES

DaShawn Keirsey's two-run homer in the second gave the Kernels a 2-1 lead, and homers by Edouard Julien and Alex Isola made it 6-1 in the fourth.

Batting stars:  Isola was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double.  Julien was 2-for-4 with two home runs.  Michael Helman was 2-for-5 with a double.  Seth Gray was 2-for-5.  Keirsey was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer.

Pitching star:  Carlos Suniaga pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Jake Means was 3-for-5.  Logan Porter was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Michael Massey was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Starter:  Casey Legumina struck out two in two innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.

Record:  The Kernels lead the best-of-five series, 2-1.
