  1. It's behind a paywall so I don't know if anyone can access but The Athletic burned through $95 million in 2019 and 2020, exceeding revenues by some $20 million. I guess $1 a month subscriptions don't pay for themselves. To be fair it sounds like a lot of it was ramping up costs and if a good percentage of those $1 a month subscriptions turn over to $10 a months, maybe it works over time.

    1. This unfortunately doesn't surprise me. They ramped up quickly in so many markets and raised another $50 million in early 2020. It always felt like a tech company to ramp up quickly and be acquired by someone with deeper pockets.

      1. Hmmm.... looks like there may be some belt tightening at The Athletic.

  2. Osage Orange season has started, it appears. Won't be long before we're holding the Second Annual Osage Orange Street Bowling Challenge. I wanted to open it up to the entire subdivision, but apparently Mrs Runner isn't comfortable doing that quite yet.

  3. Judging by the reaction on the tweets machine, one would think the Timberwolves won a playoff series or something instead of a preseason game against a bad team.

      1. I watched. Unfortunately, I also listened. Who was the color commentator? My god, he was awful.

The game? I was fine with the Yankmes loss.

I thought the decision to send Judge was reasonable. It took a near-perfect relay to get him. Eovaldi was really good. Cole was not.

                1. I've never understood the media love for John Sterling. Maybe it's just that he broadcasts for the Yankees. But I listen a lot of teams' baseball broadcasts, and he is the worst one I've heard. The only way I'll listen to him is if I'm in the car, the Yankee game is the only game going on, and the Yankee broadcast is the only one SiriusXM is giving me.
