In homage to Pirate Prentice (Pynchon - Gravity's Rainbow) I made a Grand Marnier souffle with a banana today. Didn't rise as well with the banana in there, but still tasted good.
We now have a venue and date for Elder Daughter's wedding. September 23, 2023 at Liberty Tree Farm just outside of Stockholm, Wisconsin on the north end of Lake Pepin. That drive along the river sure is pretty this time of year.
Back from seeing Eternals. Some wags would say that was a description of the experience, not just a title (runtime of 2:37). But I was sufficiently entertained.
The Girl was much more critical. She said it had two problems: plot and dialogue. Ouch.
Without sharing any spoilers: Selma Hayek was mostly wasted. I expected much more from her character. The film is beautifully shot and has an excellent score and soundtrack.
Ok, the plot is pretty dumb and so many things make no sense. Why make Eternals with so asymmetric powers? What was so special about Ajak? We see almost nothing of her. What is the purpose, beyond a dumb plot device, for Sprite to be a forever kid? The Deviants make no sense and neither does the relationship between the technological state of humans and the birth of the new Celestial. And the trope about humans being "special" is tiresome.
Still, I enjoyed myself.

Reminds me of my response to Robinson Crusoe: Defoe basically makes you feel like you’ve been on stuck on the island for 28 years.

I watched Dune on the deck with the boy last night. I'd never read the books or seen the Sting movie.
I enjoyed it but one thing made me laugh.
