2022 Game 1: The Opener

Rookie Joe Ryan gets the ball on opening day for the Twins, the first rookie to start opening day for the team since 1969 apparently. Robbie Ray goes for the Mariners, who are supposed to be much improved. If Joe Ryan can be the pitcher the Twins hope, he could be very exciting to watch.

Locked-in-to-a-long-term-deal Byron Buxton will lead off for the hometown 9, to be followed by newly signed Carlos Correa. Beyond being cool that they're the top two picks from the 2012 draft, I simply can't think of a more exciting 1-2 punch in baseball. Plus, I have a feeling Correa is going to be an improvement from Adrelton Simmons.

The grass is green, hope springs eternal, and 162-0 is still a possibility. Let's go Twins!

  1. With as long as Tony O. & Kaat waited to be inducted, it sure would have been nice for the broadcast to actually show them throwing out the first pitch instead of simply seeing it on the Jumbotron in the background behind Richard & Morneau.

  2. I was working the game last year when Joe Ryan made his debut. He had his whole family and a sizeable entourage of fans that made the trip from California (I think?). Several of them were sitting in my section out in centerfield. They made some big promises. We'll see.

  3. Hearing about some of the, ugh, rough commentary in the AL Central, it sure is nice to hear Morneau on the broadcast.

  4. Montas gave up five runs in five innings and Berríos surrendered four runs while only getting a single out.

      1. And split the next two to start 1-4. They lost only two more games that month.

Meanwhile in Arizona, Manaea threw seven hitless innings and Taylor Rogers got his first save for the Padres.
