  1. Poll added on how optimistic you are for the team. It will close some point early in today's game.

  2. Well beat the drum and hold the phone, the sun came out today. Field condition will be a big question mark this afternoon, the grounds crew replaced all of the turf after the Winter Classic hockey game, first time since the original sod was laid. I expect we may see some odd bounces off the grass here and there early in the season.

    1. This made me chuckle because the Twins’ previous home was both known for odd bounces with its original turf, delays in reconfiguring the playing surface, and for regularly hosting SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! events that would make the grounds crew at Target Field shudder. Yet, for all the events that found a home there, I don’t think the Dome ever hosted a hockey game. And why would it — with the best ice in the NHL at the Met Center, plus Williams, Mariucci, Ridder, the Xcel Center, Civic Center and even Target Center all active during the Dome’s lifespan. (Is there any other Big Four market that has as many good — or even viable — hockey venues as the Twin Cities?)

    2. Nice that there is new sod, too bad this spring has been sub-optimal (ie lack of sun and even decent warmth) for getting the sod settled in (also see Allianz Field and any local golf course)

  3. When I checked the schedule a few days ago, I realized I was only going to be able to watch two of the first ten games live. Yesterday was one of them. Sigh

    1. Bally Sucks Sports North is available on DirecTV Streaming and there's a 5 day free trial. I might switch from YTTV because Bally has a monopoly on televised Minnesota pro sports. The downside of going that way is DTV streaming has a 2-year contract and there's no guarantee that Bally will be in their lineup next year.

  4. The Detroit broadcast has had Jack White sitting next to Jack Morris for the past two innings. Morris has not said a word, but he's making the most hilarious face. It's a combination of a) who is this guy? b) why do I have to listen to this guy? c) I suppose I should pretend to respect this guy, d) why doesn't this guy go away, and e) this is beneath me. It's truly like something out of The Simpsons.

    1. Also, I just realized that the other color guy in the booth with Jack Morris is Kirk Gibson. Gibson sounds like he's about 80 years old. I certainly hope he doesn't have any CTE issues from his football days.

        1. Ok, that's too bad. I'm glad he's able to still work, and I hope his quality of life is still good.
