Minor Details: Games of May 7

A big day for Spencer Steer.  A good game for Cade Povich.  Kevin Merrill goes yard in his AAA debut.

ST. PAUL 9, IOWA 2 IN ST. PAUL

In his AAA debut, Kevin Merrill hit a three-run homer in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.

Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-5.
Merrill was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.
Derek Fisher was 1-for-4 with a home run (his third), a walk, two runs and two RBIs.

Jordan Balazovic struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks.
Wladimir Pinto struck out five in two perfect innings.

The Saints are 15-12, in third place in the International League West, two games behind second-place Columbus, 3.5 games behind Nashville.

WICHITA 5, TULSA 4 IN WICHITA

Matt Wallner doubled home the deciding run in the bottom of the ninth.

Spencer Steer was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his third and fourth) and three RBIs.

Starter Simone Woods-Richardson struck out six in 5.1 innings, but gave up four runs on five hits and a walk.
Kody Funderburk struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Osiris German pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks.
Tyler Viza pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

The Wind Surge is 16-8, in first place in the Texas League North, three games ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, QUAD CITIES 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored two in the first and four in the second.

Jeferson Morales was 3-for-4 with two runs.
Anthony Prato was 1-for-3 with a home run (his fourth), a walk, and two runs.
Will Holland was 1-for-3 with a home run.
Aaron Sabato was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.

Cade Povich struck out eight in five innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and a walk.
Denny Bentley struck out four in two perfect innings.

The Kernels are 18-8, in first place in the Midwest League West, two games ahead of Wisconsin.

LAKELAND 12, FORT MYERS 7 IN LAKELAND

Trailing 6-0, the Flying Tigers scored seven in the second and four in the fourth.

Jake Rucker was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Daniel Ozoria was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Noah Cardenas was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Noah Miller was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Starter Blayne Enlow pitched 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk and striking out one.
John Wilson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.
Regi Grace pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

The Mighty Mussels are 13-10, tied for first with Clearwater in the Florida State League North.

  1. The Twins released right-handed pitcher Dylan Thomas. No word on whether he is going to go gentle into that good night.

    1. I once had dinner at a pub in Wales that claimed that Dylan Thomas had once had a beer there.

      I later heard that every pub in Wales could claim the same.

      And only one pub can claim the last barstool Dylan Thomas sat on: The White Horse in NYC. He slipped into coma after his eighteenth whiskey there. He was 39.
