Minor Details: Games of May 8

Good starts at the lower levels, bad starts at the higher levels.  Mark Contreras keeps hitting.

IOWA 10, ST. PAUL 3 IN ST. PAUL

The Cubs scored four in the second and led the rest of the way.

Mark Contreras was 2-for-5 with two doubles.
David Banuelos was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.
Caleb Hamilton was 1-for-2 with two walks.

Starter Cole Sands struck out six in three innings but allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk.
Jake Petricka pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Yennier Cano struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

The Saints are 15-13, in third place in the International League West, two games behind second-place Columbus, 4.5 games behind Nashville.

TULSA 7, WICHITA 4 IN WICHITA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Drillers scored four in the seventh to overcome a 4-3 deficit.

Leobaldo Cabrera was 1-for-1 with two walks.

Starter Chris Vallimont pitched three innings, giving up two runs on two hits and four walks and striking out two.
Bryan Sammons struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on one hit and no walks.
Steven Klimek pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

TULSA 6, WICHITA 5 IN WICHITA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

James Outman hit a three-run homer in the third and the Drillers led the rest of the way.

Edouard Julien was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Austin Martin was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Michael Helman was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.

Starter Casey Legumina struck out five in 2.1 innings but allowed three runs on two hits and six walks.
Austin Schulfer pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

The Wind Surge is 16-10, in first place in the Texas League North, one game ahead of Tulsa.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, QUAD CITIES 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (11 INNINGS)

Anthony Prato brought home the deciding run with a sacrifice fly.

Jair Camargo was 2-for-5.

Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out six in 5.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and no walks.
Andrew Cabezas retired all five men he faced, striking out three.
Orlando Rodriguez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks and striking out one.
Bradley Hanner struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

The Kernels are 19-8, in first place in the Midwest League West, two games ahead of Wisconsin.

FORT MYERS 9, LAKELAND 1 IN LAKELAND

The Mighty Mussels scored one in the third and built a 6-0 lead through five.

Jake Rucker was 3-for-4 with two runs.
Mikey Perez was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and three RBIs.
Daniel Ozoria was 2-for-4.
Kyle Schmidt was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.
