June 14, 2022: Pink Moon

Well, technically Strawberry Moon, but close enough. Another one of those supermoon thingies, but still, I hope it adorns your skyline something beautiful tonight.

    1. Buxton once again leads the team in rWAR and has a big (for June) lead over Arraez in fWAR. Arraez does lead in wRC+ and batting runs however.

  1. We made it through the entire school year, but our COVID-less streak was snapped last night. So far the youngest of us is the only one who is clearly symptomatic, and those resembling a mild cold. Hoping it stays that way. I’m due to travel to San Diego at the end of the month, so I guess I’m just getting exposure out of the way now?

    1. Hope so.

We've all avoided it so far and this is on our minds a lot. My wife and I are taking our first vacation in 8 years in July for our 10 year anniversary. If we have to cancel we're going to be devastated; we got insurance on the trip so we could reschedule it; but more special to do it during the anniversary. Plus lots of planning involved with having people watching the kids and such that would all have to be reworked.

      1. I’m pulling for you guys. I’m supposed to be in the BWCA right now with my dad and two younger brothers.

Of the two, one has routinely lived without much concern about the of exposure and worked in relatively close proximity to lots of others - 5 days a week - over the past year. The other has been in the office twice since January.

Of course it’s the latter who caught COVID last week and, given my Dad’s age, we decided to attempt* a reschedule.

*the number of available BWCA permits have been reduced fairly significantly this year due to overuse of the wilderness area in response to the pandemic.

    1. The local blackout thing drives me crazy. Why can't I watch a local team game on ESPN if it's being played in Denver? This goes for T-wolves and Wild too. So hopefully this is the start of that going away.

If you got Apple TV you could also watch Ted Lasso, For All Mankind, and Severance.

  2. I was just looking at Arraez' minor league batting averages:

    DSL: .348
    Rookie: .309
    Low-A: .347
    High-A: .324
    AA: .318
    AAA: .338

I guess we really shouldn't be all that surprised.

    1. I was going to do a comparison to Rod Carew's minor league averages, not to prove anything but just for fun. What I'd forgotten is that Rodney jumped from Class A to the majors, so there's not much to compare. But, since I looked it up, here they are:

      Rookie: .325
      Class A: .298

      1. First 4 years in the majors:

        Carew - .292/.273/.332/.366
        Arraez - .334/.321/.294/.362 (to date)

Carew was 21 when he debuted, Arraez was 22. It's like they're the same guy.

  3. Hmmm. So far this year Kepler is hitting lefties just as well as righties (.250/.248). He shows a lot more power against right handers (.424/.365 SLG), and gets on base a little more against southpaws (.359/345 OBP).

  4. Interesting stat from the radio broadcast on Saturday that had me shaking my head. Ryan Jeffers has had more than 500 major league plate appearance without hitting a sacrifice fly. Strange but true.

    1. I heard that, too. You'd think he'd get one just by accident.

I couldn't quickly find the career record, but the record for most at-bats in a season without a sacrifice fly is 680, held by three people: Pete Rose (1973), Frank Taveras (1979), and Kirby Puckett (1986).
