  1. I was at the Mall during the shooting last night. Sour Cream, The Milkmaid and I were making our way to the exit when the call for lockdown came over the loudspeaker. The thirty seconds that followed - watching a sea of people scamper for shelter, some yelling out in fear - were the scariest and most confusing of my life.

For the entire lockdown, I was stressed out of my mind, primarily because Sour Cream was there. Meanwhile she was the most even-keeled of us all. Skim would NOT have done well, and will definitely not do well with the revelation if she learns we were part of that. So far she’s either not heard the news or doesn’t realize we were still at the Mall during that time.

    1. Saw your tweet pass through the Elon’s yesterday. Glad y’all are unharmed.

Everyone who was locked down are also victims of gun violence but hardly recognized as such. Hope you and yours hang in.

meat’s right; I hope the trauma recedes into a dull bruise on the heart. If you find that you, the Milkmaid, or Sour Cream are having a hard time, I hope you’ll talk to a professional about it.

Glad you’re as okay as okay can be in the circumstances, Milkman.

    2. Glad you and your family got through this unharmed and so sad you had to experience it. It is sad that these situations are so common that they tend to be just another news story until it hits close to home. When I heard the news yesterday, I thought "I probably know a handful of people that are there right now". When I was a younger man, I once had a crazy thought that this world would slowly progress into a more peaceful world as it's people progressed. Not sure if I buy that now. In almost every prayer session I experience, I include a prayer for peace. Today, I will include a prayer for you and yours, that you experience some peace this holiday season. Hug all that you love and even those you can only tolerate. It's a mad, mad world we live in.

  2. Giants with a loud, but private "told you so."

The New York Mets, like the San Francisco Giants earlier in the week, have raised concerns about Carlos Correa’s surgically repaired lower right leg, potentially jeopardizing their 12-year, $315 million agreement with the star shortstop, according to people briefed on the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly.

      1. I was just going to say the same thing. Scott Boras with a rare potentially multi-million dollar mistake.

  3. Philosefett (volunteer EMT) had a call at 11:40 last night. She made it one block before the van got stuck in a giant drift, and she literally ran the rest of the way to the ambulance garage. A call that would normally take 2 hours max unded up being more than 4, as they had to wait for a plow escort to arrive in town and then lead them back to the hospital that's regularly about 20 minutes away.

I went out and tried to shovel the van free, spending about half an hour digging out snow that basically felt like sand. I did not sink down from the top of the drift, it was so solid. I broke two shovels, including a heavy-duty metal one. I did not succeed in getting the van out, as the snow drift had actually lifted it up off the ground. It sat in the middle of the street all night, and this morning a couple neighbors helped blow/shovel away enough of the drift that we could pull it out with a truck. There's damage to the underside and I'm sure everything will be out of alignment now, in the best case scenario. But they got the patient to the hospital, so that's good. I'm not sure if medical insurance will cover the damage to our vehcile...

This was in town, so I can only imagine how bad it is outside of town, though I've heard stories of snow drifts more than 6 feet high. Considering we've got one that tops out at about 4 in our yard, I believe it.

  4. So, I have been on hold with Southwest for 2:40 and counting, hoping to fix what they did to my travel itinerary for tomorrow. But I am guessing I am screwed, stuck changing planes twice and getting into ABQ after midnight instead of 4:30 in the afternoon.

    Snowmas suuuuucks.

      1. Tried again this morning. 4 hours on hold, during which time they revised my first flight 4 times. When I finally got through, all the flights on Tuesday were full, so now I am going on Wednesday. Which is better than getting stuck in Long Beach for two days, which seemed likely.

        1. We've had a version of this (the waits on hold, but thankfully while still in the home) recently. Last night, I freaked the wife out because I urgently yelled out "Jane! Jane! Jane!" from the kitchen because the phone that had been on hold for a couple of hours started to connect to an agent. She thought fire or bodily injury or some other malady. This was like the third or fourth call we've had to make, so I wasn't about to wait through another loooooong hold.
