  1. Now that I have a proper WFH office, I have a place to set up my stereo & turntable again. And provided I only play records when the Poissonnière is at school, I don’t have to worry about them skipping. (Unless the 18 pound cat jumps down from a nearby surface; he sounds like a bowling ball falling off a bookshelf…)

Problem is, I don’t have a second set of speakers and haven’t bought a pair since years began with “19.”

  2. Haven't been around in a while, but I just wanted to say that I'm cool with calling the championship game for the Foot and Ball Guys league a tie if the Bills game isn't made up since Ryan had Josh Allen playing in the game that got postponed. I don't want to win it that way.

    1. Doesn't really seem important, does it?

Apparently, when the only NFL player to die on the field, Chuck Hughes, died, they finished the game. That sounds unbelievable today.

      1. This is the way of civilization. We get some, ahem, hiccups along the way, but as time goes by we have tended to become more enlightened.

        1. For further evidence, read up on the 1905 college football season. It was like bare knuckle gladiatorial combat.

        2. Amen. They used to regularly finish F1 races when drivers died — which was alarmingly often — but now they would absolutely abandon a race with any kind of fatality.

        1. Two AFL players died during games or because of game injuries.

Howard Glenn of the Jets broke his neck in the first half of a game in 1960, dying later that day. They finished the game.
Stone Jackson of the Chiefs broke his neck on a kickoff early in a preseason game in 1963, dying 9 days later. I am unclear as to whether they finished that game.

    1. He actually was quite good last year: 11-2, 3.32, 11.2 WHIP. The FIP was 4.14, and he only threw 127.1 innings, which is about the number he's thrown the last three full seasons (excluding 2020). On the other hand, that would've been third on the team last year. Last year was his first good year since 2018, so who knows if he can repeat it. It's not like he's an ace, but I wouldn't be upset if they signed him.

      1. His other numbers were pretty bad. He might have just gotten lucky last year.

I don't care if they sign him or not. If they are relying on him, they're in trouble.

        1. Yeah, it's not like I think he's going to make them champions or anything. But he probably has a better chance to help than Joey Gallo.

  3. Zombie man - I recently received some chili oil that looks similar to what you were making. Recommendations for uses?
