  1. Pedantry about #1 ≠ Ace aside for the moment, I think that the spirit of this question is essentially whether the Twins have had a pitcher that can go pitch-for-pitch against the best any other team could put on the mound in an elimination game.

And I think that answer is a pretty clear “No.” The Twins have had some solid guys who would have looked great behind a pitcher of Santana’s caliber, including some who had a sparkling season here or there, but I don’t think any of them were the best pitcher in a playoff series.

    1. what about before Santana? Hard to say with Radke, as when he was at his best, the team was so bad it's hard to imagine. But I bet plenty of playoff teams would have started Radke in Game 1 from 1997-2000. Otherwise, I think it's Sweet Music

      1. I agree with that assessment. I think Tapani was the best starter between Viola & Radke, and I’d put him better than more recent mainstays like Berríos & Ervin. But while he had a very solid career, I don’t think he ever approached elite except for the ‘91 season, and I don’t think he did any particular thing better than Bradke (who became truly elite at limiting walks as his career progressed) or Sweet Music.

I think the Twins really missed hard when they didn’t sign Darvish. He would’ve been an easy answer to this question.

        1. Berríos was the one that I thought about post-Santana. But while he had a number of outstanding starts, far too many good starts quickly turned bad.

  2. Finally saw Everything Everywhere All at Once last night. The only available TV outlet we found was Showtime and we didn't want to add another streaming service to the already overloaded menu. It was also available through Xfinity Flex for 20 bucks but that seemed excessive. So we bought the DVD at Target for eight bucks instead. Which was a good call, I think, because I'm going to want to watch it at least a few more times. I did hear about a re-release in theaters and I would definitely like to see it on the big screen, too.

    1. So there's of course Fantasy Premier League game that I've played for awhile, but I discovered just a year or two ago that there's also a niche community of people trying to crack the game. All of those folks recommended ditching Liverpool assets before this week. As someone who ignored them and held onto Salah and Nunez (and Trent AA), it's amusing watching them rant online about random chance.

  3. Joey Gallo and Max Kepler with home runs today. Twins gonna win a lot of games when that happens

    1. Gallo 3-for-3 and Kepler 2-for-3 today. Gamblers gonna lose a lot of money when that happens.

Edouard Julien has only 1 BB to 8 K; kinda bizarro for the MiLB BB leader over the past two seasons

  4. I guess I missed St. Francis hospital so much that I'm back in there.

On Monday night, we were prepping for a flight to Tokyo where NBBW was going to do the marathon.
5 days prior, i found myself out of breath after simple tasks. We decided to have me skip Japan and have NBBW go alone.
Early on Tuesday she decided to cancel as well. Late Tuesday nite she took me to the hospital, where I've been since.

Heart OK - no infection, liver/kidneys OK. But xrays showed a lot of fluid on my right lung.
They inserted a drain and drained 2.5 liters of fluid (like those Coke bottles at the State Fair. They just removed the drain today.
They also drained 2 liters of fluid from my belly yesterday.

They upped my Lasix Rx and now I'm peeing like a fire truck.

  5. And back home again, after having 2.5 liters of liquid drained from my right lung., and 2 liters from my belly. But the breathing is back to normal!

    1. Good news, obviously, but I hope you know what caused it and that there's something you can do about it. You remain in our prayers.
